7.62 Nagant

OK, a totally non-Ruger question, but I know you all are a very knowledgeable bunch and can maybe help me. A friend has purchased a very nice 1895 Nagant pistol and would like to shoot it. He knows I reload, so he asked if I could help him with ammo. I have done a bit of research and found you can form it from 32-20 and possibly .30 Carbine. (Although I don't see how the carbine could work as it has no rim) Anyone play with this caliber? I see both Lee and RCBS make die sets for it and there is some surplus ammo available on the net. Would we be better off just to buy some and then reload it. Also, what is a source for data. Most of my manuals are too new to include something that old. Do you use a standard .32 bullet? I know you can fire .32 Long in them, but he doesn't want to do that, he wants to go with the original. Any input would be useful.

A friend of mine has one of those revolvers as well. It's a pretty interesting design. But, ammo costs and availability up here aren't always real good. He's been talking about having it bored for 32 H&R.

I'm sure you can make it happen, as there are die sets available, and brass you can form cases from. No information on it in your reloading manuals? We're moving shortly, mine are packed away.

I'd try talking him into running 32 longs through it just to see how it shoots. The trigger on the one I've been around is beyond horrible. I wouldn't be afraid to start doing things with it. Of course, the flip side is that people are starting to develop an interest in guns like that now.

Let us know how your search turns out. I find that round pretty interesting.
