The GP-100 in 44 Special is real. It's SKU#1761. There's an excellent article with photos at americanrifleman.org. It's next up on my list of new guns to get. Bob!!!!!!

Bogus Bill, You need to let me hold that 5" M21 for a while. That's a holy grail gun for me. Bob!!

Yes/no. It originally is a model 20 HD. (38/44). Many years ago I found the model 21 barrel at a gun show and then went shopping for a HD. Had a gunsmith friend swap the barrels and re-chamber the cylinder. It was a 4", now is a 5". When I bought the gun it`s original grips had a bunch of small nail head imprints in the butt. I didn't re-blue it but just might some day. I dont have much in the gun, probably a 1/10th of what a guru would charge today. It`s been my beater .44 when I ride the trails on our RZR. Shoots good.
That 7 1/2" is a similar story. It was shipped to the Copper Queen mine in 1906 and in 4 3/4" .44 WCF. Somewhere along the line, probably back in the 1950`s old gun writer Tommy Bish and probably Al Capone that owned King Gun Works re did it to .44 special. A old friend of mine got it from Bish and I got it from him. The triplelock was sent back to the factory in 1949 and again in 1950 and the later adjustable sights put on back then. Have a letter. Also a letter on the Copper Queen Colt. The 6 1/2" was made about 1955, have the letter. The model 24-3 4" and the 4 3/4" colt saa and the Lipsey special I bought new.

The GP-100 in the title is a five(5) shot. I made a typing error. I'm much better at shooting and reloading that typing. I fixed it. Bob!! :o

A good bed-side piece. The 44 special won't blow your eardrums out. :D

Rangerbob you should be able to edit the title.

Bogus Bill, I have a 1947 Transitional 5" 3rd model 44 5" that was originally a fixed sight M&P style revolver. Somewhere along the way, it was sent to Kings gun works for their adjustable sight and wide hammer single action target conversion. It carries a set of Herrett shooting star grips. It is only reliable in DA mode with handloads with Federal 150 primers. MY Smith guru needs a new hammer and trigger to bring it back to reliable DA functioning and those don't grow on trees. My other 44 specials include (2) M24-3 4"( OK, I was greedy), 2 Ruger Flattop Backhawks(4.6" and a 5.5"), a midsize Vaquero 4.6", and many 44 Magnums. Fortunately, the 44 affliction is quite painless and only affects one's pocketbook. Bob!

I was ruined by Skeeter and Elmer. Once the .44 mag came out Elmer favored the mag. I also have a old model 29-2 with a added ?? 5" barrel. Bought it used many years ago. It`s the bottom one. The top is a 5" 27-2 that I bought new around 1970. Soon as I bought it I sent it back to the company and add all the options including engraving my name in gold.

Bogus Bill, The 5" M29 is my other Holy Grail gun. I too have been educated by the writings of Mr. Keith and Mr. Skelton. Good for us. Bob!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I was undecided what will replace my Rossie 720, was leaning real hard toward an XD-s in 45acp.
I think this new introduction has made my mind up!
I can wait on a late Christmas gift.

I never could find a 29 I wanted to pony up for but did luck into a 544 , .44-40 with a 5" barrel.. Love that gun. Especially once the Lee Factory crimp die came out.

A must have, at least it was a must have a couple of weeks ago for me. Before I stumbled across a Taurus 431, 5 shot stainless 3" barrel 44 special. Now it's a definite "like to have".

Aww darn, stupid Canadian gun laws says no NEW handguns with barrels less than 105 mm (4" & a Hair)
I will have to pass on it,...or I would have one too,...or is that two??? :) Sure will be a nice one!

Edited to add that maybe there is hope for us snowbirds if they make em with a 4.2" barrel. :)

I want, I want, but I want a Wiley Clapp version with fixed sights, chamfered Cylinder, et al - just like the .357 version they came out with a while ago. Then Ruger can come out with a 10 MM Auto version and really make people happy. TD

It's on the Ruger website...

Sigh. I've been wanting a .44 SPL GP100 since I bought my first Flattop Blackhawk in that caliber. And now that I'm currently broke and can't buy one, Ruger finally makes my wish come true.

Oh well: At least I've got two of the Flattops, and an ample supply of shells stashed . . .

The .44 Special GP-100 is a great addition to the catalog. If I'd held back the funds that I spent on guns earlier in the year I'd buy one.

This comparison does not bode well for it being cataloged long but it is very similar to S&W's 5 shot L frame .44 Special Model 696 that was a flash in the pan. I hope the GP-100 version lasts long enough for me to get one. It'll be up to you guys to buy enough of them to keep the offering in the catalog.

Charter Arms has continuously had a DA .44 Spcl on the market since the 70's. Taurus off and on. Why S&W, and Ruger haven't is beyond me. I will have to save up for the new GP 100 .44. Would love to have one.
