5.5" Redhawks ?

I've got a stainless 5.5" Redhawk in .44 Mag and really like it.

Are the 5.5's still being made and if not what was the last year of production ?......seems like all I ever see is used ones.

I've been on Davidsons Gallery of Guns wait list for over a year. I really want one. Hopefully Ruger will make a run of them soon.

I just took mine to the range today to test some "ruger only" handloads. Shoots 355 grain Beartooth Bullets at about 1180 fps and 325 grain BTBs at about 1320 fps. Love the 5.5 inch barrel.

I've got a buddy that has been looking for a new one for about a year so if new ones are still available '5of7' do you know of anyone who has them ?

Being listed in the current catalog and actually being produced and available on the street are entirely different things.

If you put your email in at Davidson's for a warning they do come in sometimes. Last few though haven't lasted 4 hours before going. Just gotta have your bling ready and purchase quick! I'd been watching for a .30 carbine blackhawk and they came into stock at 10 am and were gone by 11:15 when I got the email!

I've got a 5.5" 41 Mag SS I bought new in 1985. It will go to the grave with me.

They are sweet! Got mine used but like NIB. My dealer has got a couple in the last year or so but with laminated instead of rosewood grips. He may still have one.

IMHO the Redhawk is a pretty tough gun to wear out or beat up. Waiting for a new one will mean potentially a long....long wait, however used ones are nearly always available on Gunbroker and the like.

If you get a stainless one, barring some hideously deep gouges, a little work with a light gray ScotchBrite pad and that gun will look darn near brand new.

I spent quite a bit of time looking at the RHs. I was on the fence between a 4" and a 5 1/2" gun as a protection gun and possibly a hunting gun. In the end I settled on the 5 1/2". It is compact enough that I can wear it on my belt without too much interference and the slightly longer barrel gives me the ability to hit out to quite a long distance. The extra velocity is an added bonus.

I wouldn't hesitate to go the used route.

I have an old 5.5 RH that the prevoius owner sent to Mag-Na-Port that's just awesome. Recoil with heavy loads is easily manageable and very accurate.

JMHO- it's the perfect 44 mag double action for a working gun.

I've got a blued 5.5" one that I've had since the late 80's. Still shoots fine after thousands of rounds.

I do not at the present time....I was just going by the fact that they are still listed on the web site and the fact that used ones are offered for sale on gunbroker quite often.

I had a 5 1/2" that I had to sell twenty three years ago. Never saw another until I ran into one from an estate sale some time back. It was unfired, in the original box. On the way home I noticed that the "manual" was yellowed. Got home and checked the serial # and found out this puppy had been laying in the box since around 1986 or '87, never used. I still haven't fired it, but love it anyway. They are worth waiting on.

I was just being "an old retired guy" wandering the local gun and pawn shops a couple of weeks ago. At a pawn shop where I had found a few gems in the past, I spotted a 5-1/2" stainless .44 Mag, Redhawk. Gave it a quick check and walked out with it about 10 minutes later. Sweet! Great single action trigger and long smooth double action. Having been a longtime old school S&W guy when it comes to wheel guns, but this thing is just great. Am currently working up some mid-range 200gr LSWC and some "Ruger-Style" 240gr JSP loads. So far, I'm all smiles.

I kept an eye out looking for one for a number of years before I stumbled on mine. It had been shot enough to be butter smooth, but it locks up like a bank vault. Like some others on this thread, I prefer the 5.5" over the 4 or 7.5. It's the "sweet spot".
