Just picked up my alaskan the other day and wondered if anyone had any recomendations on reloads with a 300gr hornady xtp? powder recomendations ect? Any one powder better than the others for people? Thanks Richard

If you are using XTP's I would stick with something around Ruger 45 Colt load velocity. If you are going for 454 full power I would use the mag version of XTP bullets.
I use WW 296 in all my 454 full power loads, here is some Freedom Arms data with their bullets, go to the bottom of the page and click on .454 load data.

+1 on that advise. The mag bullets have a thicker jacket which will not distort like the non-mag bullets. The non-mag bullets can cause damage to the pistol forcing cone and such. I use H-110(like win296) for my mag loads.

Yesbi will be using the mag bullets. 110or 296 is what it seems most are using. Any flame cutting problems from any using the 296/110?
