.44 Spl. NM FT

I just found out the hard way that the little divot in the frame on the the new Flattop .44 GF is part of the timing. I spent all day fitting a stainless GF to my .44. Got it all fitted and polished up. Then I measured the distance to the center of the divot and tried to measure the depth (about .030) but it is hard to be accurate on the depth due to the shape of the bottom. Made a new divot to what I though was the right depth. When the grip frame is assembled to the cyl. frame with the gate open the cylinder will only turn about a 1/2 in. I can cock the gun and it turns fine but I can't load it or remove empties if I could load it. So 8hrs and a $100 GF, and back to square one. :roll:

Tellico, I have to assume this is the troublesome .44 Sp. you've posted about It's gonna be right--eventually. Consider shooting Hondo44, not literally, a PM about it. He seems always willing to help and is a super nice (and experienced) guy!

Cholo, I wrote the above in the PM section then I decided to put it here. I may copy and PM to Hondo44. I though I had a plan here but I didn't know the depth of the little notch was critical to operation. I put the orig GF back on and will have to live with the ill fitting grips. I will buy only Bisley Rugers from now on. I have always found great fitting grips for them.
