.41 MAG 3 SCREW

Need some advice,I'm pretty new to the handgun world. My first purchase (after a 22 semi) was a .41 3 screw blackhawk. Gun is in great shape , slight wear on muzzle from carry, light scratches on frame, fired very little, just a slight drag mark on the cyl. Serial # 105xx. My original intention was to hunt with the gun. Well I can't shoot it for beans. 52 year old eyes havin trouble with iron sights. I don't want to scope it because I know it will affect the value. Even the weaver 301 will marr the barrel. I bought a 357 new model that I'm not afraid to scope. Forgot to mention both are 4 5/8 barrels. I don't have much in the .41 mag. I'm thinking about selling it but I don't know. I'm really torn. Is there much value in the gun ? What's it worth ? For me to shoot it well I know I need to scope it. I don't think I can bring myself to do it. I know it will hurt the value. Everyone talks so highly of the .41 mag but I'm not feeling it. Throw it in the safe or unload it???

You have a scarce variation in the duplicate s/n range. It is collectible, especially if in great shape. If you don't need the money right now, I'd stick it back in the safe and hang on to it...at least through the summer (the "slow" period for gun selling).

It's very difficult for me to give a value estimate without seeing pictures of it. Also, you don't mention if it has been converted or if it has box and papers. Assuming no to both of these, I'd say it's worth in the $450-600 range.

IMO

Give a .41 Hunter/ Bisley Hunter some consideration. Comes from Ruger w/ the intragated scope mounts, rings, stainless, ~$600.

They are 7.5" long but I have seen plently cut to 5-5.5"

So sell the OM this gives you most of the $$ for the new platform.

As for value of your OM,,, as mentioned above, spot on, with the info supplied.

Here is one cut to 5". The Hunter's (This one a Bisley Hunter)come with a 5" ERH, SO cut is just past the end of the ERH looks and works perty fine.

I have a weaver #301 mount on my NMBH in .357 mag and shoot fairly heavy reloads though it with 158gr. & 180gr. bullets trying to work up a good deer load i've shot 150-200 rounds tough it I took the base off the other day to see how bad it was marking the gun and found that there was'nt a single mark on the gun I know its not a .41 mag but my load that I shoot the most is 158gr. honady xtp over 16.5 gr. of H110 stiff load and recoil no problems with the base marking my gun. Just thought i'd share my two pennys worth.

Thanks for all the info guys, I'm thankful for all your help. I think I'm going to hang on to it for a while. I already have a new model .357 I was going to put a weaver 301 and a red dot on. I'm not too worried even if I do scratch that one up. I guess I kinda got a thing for old stuff, I've been building recurves and longbows for 20+ years and building and collecting bamboo fly rods for 10. Yea I like old stuff and I'll regret it if I sell it even if I come out way ahead. Thanks again
