Found a really good load for the 405 win. with cast bullets .
300 g. cast with 12.5g Unique .
Stacked em up at 50 yds. with iron sights
Just passing it along (use at your discretion)
Thanks , Steve

Thanks for the load suggestion--I love the 405 win round! Any idea what velocity this is going? You shooting a Number 1 or a winchester?

Also wondered if the bullets are gas checked?

thanks

Ron

Gas checked 300g. and plain base 300g.
Haven't got a chrony but I would guess 1200 - 1300fps
I'm useing a No.1 and could shoot all day long with this load .
I know it's a slow load (you can here the paper smack at 50yds.)but it really shoots great . Iron sights and less than 2" at 100 yds.
If you get it chronagraphed let me know the speed .
Thanks , Steve

Do you use any filler and what type of primers?
Thanks

No filler and WLR primers
What rifle do you shoot the 405 in ?
I've e-mailed the powder manufacturer and asked them about the 40+ year old data . They have no current test data on the 405 with Unique but the nice lady that I talked with didn't see any problems with this load .
My data came from an old Lyman manual from the 1960's .
Thanks , Steve

I'll have to try that. I've been shooting 54.0 of 3031 with the Hornady 300 gr RN. Been looking for a reduced load though and that sounds perfect.

Lee ,
My reload manuals show a max of 53.0g 3031 .
Found in my No.1 46.0g with the 300g Hornady jsp shoots the best .
If anyone with a chrony can chrony the Unique load I'd be real interested in the speed .
Thanks , Steve

There's variability in 3031 loads. Some manuals show 53.0 as max while other data suggests 54.0. I'm using a stainless Ruger #1 and it likes 54.0 grains. No extraction problems and the accuracy is outstanding. As always, play it safe and work-up incrementally. In fact, I think I started with 51.0.

I didn't look carefully and thought you spoke about .458 whinny. Either way they have size in common. I've heard of Unique being used in both. I have a #1H with a 16 1/2" barrel. Thanks.
