I found this at a local gun show. It came from an estate collection. It looked like it had never been fired. At some point, the gun was sent back to Ruger to install the transfer bar mechanism, but the original parts were included with the gun.

Very nice. Good score. Welcome to the forum

I must warn you, these are additive. You can't have just one!!!!!!!!

welcome to the Forum...yessir that is a very nice score, tough to find early type 1 guns , especially in a 3 digit configuration..........
you check the books and do a bit of homework, you will find the box and the grips are later (grips are aftermarket) and the frame just may have been redone or replaced as the color appears to be more of a matte finish, easily remedied though, hopefully the front sight and blade have the 'zig-zag' pattern on the top surface,, bottom line it is a 3 digit gun, parts or no parts , most of us would take that in a heart beat

I know about the box and the grips. However, I did have the gun checked out by a local gunsmith and he verified the authenticity and the blueing to be correct for that run of guns. Apparently they were having trouble getting it "right". I did fire it at the range, after all, it isn't worth anything if it doesn't shoot. And this one shoots just fine.

Rick, what a great find ! Just came on to a '61 plated flattop a couple of weeks ago and I agree. If you can't shoot it why own it. If we need investments there are better ways to invest than old guns. Shoot them and enjoy them and find an honest investment advisor that doesn't collect guns ! What FUN !!

Congrats on a great find!

Just for grins, note that 551 appears on Bob's List as being manufactured 10/28/55 and shipped 10/29/55. Consecutives this old are certainly a scarce commodity, so this has extra appeal to serious Rugerphiles.
