.357 Redhawk

I just read an article about the .357 Redhawk and it revealed that it was machined for full moon 8 round clips.
The Redhawk is too heavy to be a combat type gun, and certainly too large and heavy to be a carry gun, so why the moon clips? 8)

I think some would argue both your conclusions that it is either too heavy for combat or too large and heavy for carry.

I would also point out that it might be very good for some competitions, such as bowling pin shoots. To each his own.

From what I've read, the only real "problem" with the .357 Redhawk is that the cylinder is so heavy that if it is cocked (or fired DA) "with vigor" the bolt and its cylinder notches will suffer. If the moon clips are intended to allow quick reloading for any fast work, this might be a consideration.

The only problem with the NEW 357mag Redhawk is they made it an 8 shot, so now I can't ream the new ones out to 357/44 B&D.

They carry well enough, just as do any of the Redhawks and Super Redhawks.

I have a Redhawk, 7 1/2 inch barrel, 357 mag. I am the only guy at our pin shoots who shoots a Ruger! Great revolver.

Well, drilling 8 chambers in it may lighten the cylinder enough to avoid that issue, assuming it's really a problem. My objection to the 8-shot Redhawk is it's only available with a 2-3/4" barrel and that's too short for most of the speed/target games like Steel Challenge and bowling pin shoots.

maybe for shooting 9mm ammo??? the 45LC redhawk cylinder was cut out for the 45 acp cartridges to be used with moon clips...........

For me, the problem with the new .357 Redhawk is that it only comes in a 2.75 in. barrel. Now, if it came in a 7.5 in. like the .44 I would have to get one. Actually my wife would be glad that it only comes with the short barrel
