According to the USPS tracking my New to me 357 REDHAWK is headed to my ffl dealer. fingers crossed.
After a 2 year seach I finally scored one. When I first started trying to obtain one they were selling for @$550. now I see folks trying to get over a grand for them on the auction sites. Well I hope they have success in getting that for them now that this guy is not in the fight for one. Hopefully for those out there wanting one, the prices will now plummet to realityville. I feel I'm the one who caused the market for them to sky rocket :lol:

You didn't mention if it is a 7 1/2 or 5 1/2 inch barrel, but either is treasure.
Ruger has made a double action 357 revolver for every occasion. I have a Redhawk 5 1/2 incher and it's my extra large 357. It goes with my 5" GP-100 (large 357) and 4" Security Six (medium 357), 3" SP-101 (medium small 357) and KLCR (smallish 357).
It's good to be prepared!

I had a 5.5" years ago and it's one of the few guns I let go of that I miss. Yes, it's way overbuilt, but it's one heck of a gun.
 
Seems like I saw a kit for crane & cylinder to shoot 357/44 Baines & Davis rounds on that gun, always made me think that some other 35 cal wildcats might be interesting with a 357 Redhawk for the mothership, 454 Casull necked to 357 would be real interesting

I got a twinge in my wrist and flinched a little just thinking about that one :)
 
I acquired a set of 5.5" Redhawks in each chambering.
Oddly, the only one that did NOT excite me was the 357 version.

I can only surmise it was due to the leftover excitement of my 7.5" version.

The 7.5" 357 Magnum Redhawk is my small-bore USPSA Revolver Division choice; I have a 5.5" 44 for making easier Major :roll:




Odd reality: I made a heavy-bullet hunting load for my pair of 4" GPs, but when I tested it in the 7.5" it blew every primer. Odd.....
And I've made some loads for the Redhawk I would NEVER fire in ANY other gun, except a Freedom Arms or DW.....

This year has been a good one for finishing up some wish lists. I recently picked up a Remington 600 in 6mm to finish out my 600 collection. now I'll have to figure out whats next on my wish list. Maybe a Smith model 58 hmm
 
I have one and I love it, it's a very specialized gun for me, just a range shooter. I shoot it mostly from sandbags and I added a lighter spring to make the SA break cleaner. I rarely shoot it DA.

There was a story on here a while back about a Deputy Sheriff who carried a 7.5" .357 Redhawk as a duty gun! 8)
 
I would love to see a 3.5 inch Redhawk in .357!! I have a Redhawk in .44 with a 3.5" barrel and magnaporting. with .44 specials it is the epitome of accuracy. Redhawks are the single best revolvers, along with S&W registered magnums. what do yall think?????

I am a big fan of the Redhawk and I currently have 7 of them including a 7-1/2" .357.

The reason for the .357 is that it defines the term "over-built".

Even the Smith N frame guns are a little too much for the .357 Mg cartridge. They are a little unwieldy and heavy to carry around for a cartridge that is every bit as well housed in the L frame Smith or the GP100.

IMO, of course.

The Redhawk in .357 is way over built and thats why in the 80s when they came out they sat on shelves and never sold well. I remember my supplier calling and making us a deal on them. I don't remember what allocated Ruger we were able to get but I know we had to eat 2 Redhawks in 357 with 7.5 barrels to get it. One took 3 years to sell and the other was taken home by the owner when the shop closed in 1990.
Now folks ask a mint on the internet for them.
I wonder what Ruger isn't selling well now that I can stock up on cheap and one day make a mint on?
 
I always wondered if they made the 357 Redhawk with at least 1 extra round or possibly 2 if it would have been more popular. I think an 8 shot Redhawk would have been a great seller. It would be pretty silly but I bet you could make it a 20 shot in 22lr! Ed
 
Ruger has never had anything over 6 rounds in a .357 revolver, have they? Smith & Taurus have done it...wonder why Ruger seems to shy away from it?

That's an understatement. BEAUTIFUL gun. About as beautiful as a gun can be. I just walked in the door with my GP100 (used but like new) so I know the feeling. Seems like the adrenaline rush of buying a new gun is shorter and shorter every time. I'm already looking around at 1911's HAHA.

Just the current 8shot SP101 as far as I know.
 
I out a lighter spring in mine, and added Pachmayr grips and it's a manageable gun.

My only concern with it are the reports of the cylinder "inertia" from fast DA or SA shooting peening up the stop notches or the bolt window.

I also have 2 S&W 6" 28's, one has a scope on it, the other I gave to my Dad. They are great guns also, I would buy a Model 28 4" in a second if I saw one for a sane price.

FWIW Taurus makes an 8-shot .357 on their .44 frame, and S&W also has the R8 8-shot .357.

Because with the reputation of making "tanks", Ruger leaves plenty of cylinder safety margin.

And yet they managed to make the LCR into a .357, which shows they can do more with less and still be within their comfort zone for safety...
 
I saw a 7.5 inch 357 Redhawk on a classified ads site about 15 minutes ago...$400 was the asking price...
Look for KSL Classifieds and go to the firearms section... :idea:
