22 Hornet scope?

I have a new Browning Low Wall in 22 Hornet that I wish to scope for ground squirrel hunting. What is the practical magnification range I should be looking at? Thanks...

I have a Weaver 6x on my Ruger #1

I have a 6-18X on my Savage model 40. The extra magnification is nice for the really small targets, and for showing the non-believers what a hornet can do.

IMO (worth what it cost) is that anything over 6X fixed or perhaps a 3-9 compact tempts one to try to do things that the Hornet is not ment to do. I have a 4X on my .218 Bee and find that it does what it is asked to do. If I want more range, I reach for the .223 or the .22-250. jack

A 3X9 is about the most common and cheapest scope you can buy, although, I agree a nice 6 power is very practical on the Hornet.

I own a Low Wall in Hornet as well... had it for a few years. I mounted a 3-9x Leupold Compact on it. Looks just right to me. The low wall is a bit on the dainty side. By the way I shoot Hornady ammo in it and it will punch one hole all day long.

My wife and I have Bushnell 4X12X40 SPORTSVIEW scopes on our [Each have] 22 LR, .22 Hornet and, 223.
When they were bought out they dropped the SPORTSVIEW SCOPES.....

I just replaced my 6x with a Redfield 12x yesterday.
Anxious to see just how much over-scoped I am with my #1, .22 Hornet...

ive got a 3x9 leupold on mine and its plenty of scope for the range a hornet is good for and it works well as a small game hunting rifle in the woods like that too.

I put a Bushnell "Sports View" 4x12x40 on my Ruger 77-22 Hornet.
Since Bushness was bought out, they no longer have the Sports View.
The Sports View focuses to 15 feet, for those close shots.
I assume it could be a .22 LR scope but, I have had no problem with it.

have a cheap bushnell banner 4-12x40 AO on my savage model 40 in 22 hornet. i put it on there sort of as a temporary thing, but this has really turned out to be a decent scope. never use it in any circumstances other than broad daylight, and the picture is clear enough. works just fine. i like having the adjustable objective for close up or far out shooting

Like most other things, scope quality is based on price. The ol' rule-of-thumb has been the scope cost should be approx 1/2 the value of the firearm. The value is in the glass and precision of the adjustment knobs. Burris, Nikon, and Leupold all have pretty good 3x9s in the $200 range.
