n.y.s.
I been shooting a S@W model 41 22 sal. 5 1/2" barrel the gun drive tacks at 20 yards
I will say it out of my Price range
I would like to consider a Ruger Mark but there are so many different models out there which one would say would compare to be a reliable tack driver

I would suggest a MKII variation. Next, try out the various models, such as the 5.5" bull barrel, the 6-7/8" tapered target, and the 6-7/8 Conpetition Target model, or the Government Target model to see which one(s) YOUR hands prefer. And when shooting them,, understand that you can do things to improve the trigger feel.

MY RUGER MKII 5 1/4" TARGET is more accurate than all three S&W M41's i've owned in the past 30 years.

I have a new MK3 Hunter with 6 7/8" barrel. Very accurate.

Like Contender stated it is what fits you. My preference is a KMK678G then a 514T. But I have shot all models and can say there is not a huge difference between any one of them.
Heres my KMK678G with VQ parts and target shot from rest with iron sights at about 30 yds

And you can upgrade it later as $$ allowes.

Mine is a MKII 6-7/8" tapered target model. I'd recommend one for you we well. You won't be sorry.

Agree with Contender and Wil Terry on superb accuracy potential of the Ruger, with my preference the MK II. Intrinsic accuracy is more a matter of the individual pistol than barrel length. For small game, longer barrel means longer sight radius and higher velocity. I love the balance of the 5-1/2" bull, and greatly like the 6-7/8" bull as well. Unless you're shooting old school silhouette with iron sights, the 10" fairly begs for a good scope.

The MK II (10-shot mag, bolt catch) represents improvement over the original MK I with 9 rd mag and without bolt catch.

The MK III complicates matters with magazine disconnector and loaded chamber indicator. Any lawyer with half a brain should know that a loaded chamber indicator NEVER takes the place of MUZZLE CONTROL.

I like the heal clip magazine catch of the MK I & MK II----secure with all holsters.

The plastic frame .22 auto I cannot abide, as it is top heavy, with a predilection to dance when I squeeze the trigger. The grip feels cheap and resists my hand. I desire accuracy from a .22, and the Ruger with phony 1911 plastic bottom won't let me have it.

Count another vote for a Mark II rather than a Mark III. You may have to do a bit of looking, but they are out there. In my neck of the woods, a clean Mark II will cost as much as (or sometimes even more than) a comparable model new Mark III.

I pack a 6" standard model in the woods, and shoot a 6-7/8 target model with Volquartsen innards at the range.

I have the MKIII 22/45 and wish I opted for another model.
It felt good and shoots awesome but, the plastic lower will not accept sideplates without modification.

Unless you get the RP (Replaceable panels) model.... I prefer the 22/45 as I prefer the 1911 grip angle to the MkII/III.

Other than the sideplates or panels, I do like it though......good shooting.

Well, wait a minute now. I have a Ruger Mark II with the 5-1/4 inch barrel and it's not as accurate as my:

Ruger Mark II Competition Target:

And that's been verified using this outfit:

I highly recommend the MKII KMK512 which is super precise and has still no loading indicator or mag safety. Before you buy one check carefully the barrel, it has to be completely smooth! Otherwise the build up of lead in barrel will get rapidly.

Find a good MKII with adjustable sights. It will probably approach a new MKIII in price because many of us find them more desireable. Add a Volquartsen rear sight, Volquartsen internal parts and spare magazines and you're good to go. The MKIIIs are lawyer designs and don't add any desireable features that you can't add to a MKII other than a button release magazine.

Best Regards,
