I have a Ruger 22/45 Lite that I want to have anodized purple for my daughter. The inner barrel nut appeared to be stuck but upon further review it looks like Ruger does not recommend that you remove it because it has a proprietary torque value and epoxy holding it in place. Has anyone removed one and installed it with any success? I do not want to ruin the gun but I would really like to make it purple for my daughter to match some of her other ones.

Cerakote is probably possible but I think we will just keep it blue if that is what it comes down to. I like the stainless barrel in between hte venting and we would loose that with the Cerakote. I will definitely keep everyone updated with what I decide though.
I do Cerakoting and I think you could get it Cerakoted without affecting the inner barrel. I would need to look at one close up to see how I would mask off the barrel so that the coating would only be on the shroud. I'll stop by the new sporting goods store that just opened in my area (they have a BIG gun section) and see if they have a Lite I can look at and I'll post my thoughts tomorrow.
Looked very carefully at one this morning and I think it could be Cerakoted. It would be a bit tedious to get whatever you use for masking in around the barrel but I think it could be done. Myself, I'd use strips of heavy paper and work them through the vents from rear to front to protect the barrel but still be able to get the Cerakote into the vents to coat the sides of the vents.
I am going to try to talk to Ruger tomorrow and see what info I might be able to get out of them about the torque value of the barrel nut and the epoxy. I don't see a big deal about pulling the barrel out and replacing and retorqueing. Look at the Dan Wesson pistol packs, they gave the buyer everything they needed to replace the different barrels and I don't think they gave a torque wrench with every one, they were more worried about the barrel/cylinder gap. But Ruger being Ruger, they will probably say that replacing the barrel, if something were to go wrong, would be covered by Ruger but you would have to return the barrel/receiver to Ruger for the repairs.

Well, I was right, they don't want to give out the torque value (I would suspect the legal folks meddling). And they did say that if anything happened to the barrel it would have to be returned to them to be fixed (again probably for liability reasons).
That said, and after looking at the blue 22/45 Lite, I really like that color combination and the anodizing really looks nice. However, if the person really likes the gun and would like it even more if it were purple, I do think it could be Cerakoted.
You could also look around on the different auction sites, eBay and other places to see if anyone was selling just the barrel/receiver, no matter what color and have it Cerakoted and just swap the blue one out. Believe it or not, there are people that will want to do things with the frame/internals with something else they have and they will sell the barrel/receiver (it is the serialized part so it does have to go through a FFL to be transferred, unless the buyer and seller live in a state that allows these kinds of private sales).

3ddiver1,,, Ron is "in the business." Plus,,, I have personally seen & handled several of his Cerakoted guns. His work is excellent.
3ddiver1, as contender said I do Cerakoting as part of my gunsmithing business. If you send me an email I can send you some pictures of some of the guns I've done, including an upper, lower and quad rail for an AR in S&W Red (the color grows on you).
