A local guy showing off his 1947 Jeep

Exact color/model I grew up with circa 1961!!! Still have fond memories despite a few 'walk-back-to-civilization' experiences......

Remember this one..1946 CJ2-A

Around 1980 when I was heavy into Jeeps, I started building a M38.
The frame was fabricated from 2"x4"x.120" tube and the body was stainless steel.
I bought the front fenders, windshield frame, and grille from a company in California.
I made the main tub from 304 18ga stainless. The axles I had were Dana 44 and I had custom springs that were 4" over stock. The rear floorboard was raised 6" to allow room for the 30 gallon stainless gas tank.
I had the Jeep until my son needed his first car. I sold it before it was completed to a local guy.
About 5 years ago I was told it was somewhere in North Carolina?

Somewhere I have pictures of one set up as a farm tractor, with hydraulic lifts and sickle bar mower on the side. Pretty neat trucks.

I've got a book about the old jeeps. There were some that came with attachments like backhoes. Their engineering was pretty awesome.

The man that really brought the Jeep to Americans is from about 35 miles from where live, Bartow,GA...they pay homeage to that on the city limits sign...Home of the JEEP...

The man was Roy Evans and the link below tells a little of the history of the Jeep and the role Evans played in that.

Had a CJ2A that the previous owner had put a small block Chevy in. Had overdrive, tow bar and hubs on all 4 wheels. Got over 20mpg going down the freeway if your kidneys and back could stand it.

A family member had a 1953 willys when I was growing up. I liked to ride in it then. I was excited the first time I got to drive it on our farm.
It is the reason I bought an old Cj7 to drive and fiddle with when I got older.
Nellie Belle might have influenced me a little also. :)
My cj7 is not a willys but it still looks like a jeep and is still just as exciting to drive as when I was a kid.

Just to show you why I'm so critical of White County, a car dealer has a jeep of that style he has painted pink and put a pink and white striped awning over using a frame of square stock welded to the chassis. Dad refuses to get on 24 in Monticello so he won't have to see it.

Used to see the pink "Surrey with the fringe on top" Jeeps around various resorts. it's not a new idea.
