10/22 Rear Support Tang

After installing a 0.9200 diameter full length bull barrel on a Ruger 10/22 receiver, it makes some sense to add another hold down screw for the rear of the receiver that will assist the the front receiver screw. Concern always seems to revolve around "barrel droop", or the front of the action tilting forward, due to the weight of the barrel and with only the front action screw used to hold the receiver in the stock. Here's one method to help getting the receiver fully settled into the stock.

A rigid holding fixture will help hold the receiver, and then help get it adjusted for alignment in the X, Y and Z axis' to allow milling of the slot for the ~NEW~ tang in the correct position.



The slot for the added rear tang is then milled into the rear face of the 10/22 receiver.



We now have an additional means to anchor the receiver more solidly into the gunstock.



While we're at it, a cleaning rod hole can also be added so that cleaning from the breech with a cleaning rod is much more accessible.

Nicely done.
I don't own any expensive 10/22 barrels. But I have seen barrel-bedded guns with floated receivers, due to the strength of the cast aluminum receivers being "suspect". very accurate results. But then I've never measured "droop" on a 20" steel bar-stock barrel? A more-probable effect might be stretch/bend of the front portion of the aluminum mounting section?
I do use a ball stone to dress (most) of my rimfire muzzles if/when any damage is suspected from rod vs. crown contact, which has yielded great result.

This make a lot of sense but I do have a question.

Where did you get the "new rear tang"? Did you make it or purchase it? If you made it could you provide the drawings for it or are they copyrighted? If you bought it, who did you buy it from?
