Did Ruger every make a 45 ACP Snubby or 3"? Who besides me would be interested?

First,, from Ruger's viewpoint,, I doubt there would be sufficient interest for them to produce any. Low sales isn't what they desire.
A distributor might consider it,,, and that would not be a hard change to the assy line,, and is possible.
But as for have they ever made one,, I'm not sure as I don't keep up with the NM's as much. But I do seem to recall a "Sheriff's Model" that was similar,, but in .45 Colt. Adding a .45 acp cylinder to one of those would be fairly easy.

The closest is 3.6",,, the shortest barrel that Ruger makes in any gun.
Mine is a Vaquero (Large Frame) that came from Ruger chambered in 45 Colt. Being it is a Large Frame it shoots Ruger Only 45 Colt loads if one chooses…
I fit the 45 ACP Cylinder, and a few other custom touches.
Most of the time I shoot 45ACP and/or 45 Cowboy Special,,, because they eject easiest.
FWIW: This same gun was built with a Plow Handle also.
Ruger did eventually make a New Vaquero (Medium Frame) in 45 ACP and 45 Colt (not convertible) and the New Vaquero being a Medium Frame they are just a tad smaller and lighter.

I do like the way you think,,, and the plan WAS,,, to cut this 4.6", 45/45acp flattop convertible down to 3.6"… I made the mistake of shooting it before the chop, and have since decided, with the adjustable MICRO SIGHT, to leave it as a 4.6".
These flattops are built on a Medium Frame.
I do like me some short barrel guns…

As G2 mentioned, Ruger made the New Vaquero in various calibers as the Montado model (357 & 45 Colt) and Sheriff's or Storekeeper's model (44 Spl & 45 ACP) plus Birdhead's as well. They look well balanced and handy to me.
Cute little thing. New Vaquero .45ACP, 3-3/4" barrel. It shoots extremely well.

I always thought a gun like that would make a nice concealed carry! (if your partial to Single Actions?)

My Judge dad carried a 41 mag Blackhawk in his pickup for many years. I sometimes carry mý 45 Colt Bisley Vaquero in a Mernickle holster daily in cooler weather.
Prosecutors look for careless handling or illegal actions, not what kind of gun it is.
Small frame Glock with a big extended mag might get a more serious scrutiny than a 6 shot revolver.
I can't see why Ruger couldn't use the SP101 as the base for a 45ACP snubby. I have one in 32 H&R and am sorry I never also picked up the .357. I do love 6 cylinder snubbies. I have 2" S&W ones in 45 ACP, 41 Mag and 10mm/40 S&W & a Dan Wesson .357.

Cylinder window dimensions would not allow for .45 in the SP series. Guessing a .45 GP series would be possible but challenging given the .44 special versions.

Ruger made a couple of Redhawks in .45Colt/.45ACP (using moon clips). The model 5032 is the older version and the 5050 is the current version. I’ve been looking for either one at LGSs and gun shows for a couple years. They’re not snubbies though, with a 4.2” barrel.Assuming you limit yourself to SINGLE action guns!
But I don’t think they did a double action in this caliber.

Some of the best of the 25-2 breed were done by Jovino or Behlert But many were done.
Yeah, they really have got to be that big to be a 6 shooter.
If you need smaller look for a Charter arms 45 bulldog. Not a great gun, but a gun.
With Ruger they ran out of room on the GP-100 with the 44 spl.
So the 45 would have to be the sizable beast built with a Redhawk.

A 5 shot ported full lug 3" barrel hammerless 45acp with qualty design grip with integral laser would probablý sell good
And there I thought it would be as simple as swapping in a cylinder and boring out the barrel. Shows how little I know. LOL.

I think a .40 S&W would fit in an SP101. I have an older SP in 9mm and got curious about a .40 in it and tried one for size.
The bullet (projectile) fit in the backside opening of the cylinder but stopped at the mouth of the casing, so it would needed to be opened up 1mm (9mm vs. 10mm).
Plenty of length on the cylinder and just a little bit bigger hole in the cylinder and barrel. I know it's not a 45 but it does start with a '4' so that's something.

You might wish,, but marketing would likely disagree with you. Remember,, they want to sell a LOT of guns to pay for the re-design & testing it'd require. And of course,,, still make a profit.

The only 45 caliber small handgun that I ever owned was a Kimber with a 6 round 45acp capacity. Beautiful little gun and very manageable recoil for that caliber in such a small package. But with the 3 inch barrel it never recycled properly, giving me repeated failures to eject and failures to feed despite several trips back to the factory. I think 45 Colt in a small revolver would give a heck of a kick.

In a self defense shooting, a so inclined prosecutor will find something wrong with your weapons choice no matter what:
a) Single shot Contender: "What are you, some type of sniper?"
b) SA revolver: "So you think you're Wyatt Earp?'
c) DA revolver: "Who do you think you are, Dirty Harry?"
d) Semi-automatic: "Why do you need so many shots?"
Just saying.

Prosecutes look at anything to make their case. And if you think they only look at illegal actions you are not aware of how the systems works. I know of a case where the the prosecutor used the fact the defendant did not cuss in public against him. They are ruthless, think of the Trump case in NYC.
