    My .44spec Varmint Load

Well, it doesn't make as "pretty" of a pattern as a CCI shot-shell due to larger shot, and the bullet taking up volume. It is though, lethal to much larger critters. Am quite happy with the load. I need to chrono it, decide if the wiggle room is best filled with either another .5 gr of Unique or...

    Lipsey's Flattop ~ Finally got it !

Hope you can dig up some ammo in less than another 11 months ! I got a blue'd one, right after Ruger put them into their catalog. Then a shiny SS Sheriff's Vaquero found its way here too. Enjoy ! Hmmnnn... you are less than 4 hrs away. steve b

    Couple of Flintlocks I've built

Very nice ! I used to work with a gentleman by the name of Albert Felix that made many flint lock wee-pons over the years, his years. Some of his went on to win nat'l matches too. On break time or lunch period, he'd be sitting with a piece of brass or silver and a file, working away. I showed...

    My .44spec Varmint Load

The follow up loads are lead. That load varies wether I'm here, or up in the hills. steve b

    My .44spec Varmint Load

Have considered, then re-considered keeping a shot shell first up, when afield. There's been a marked uptick in rattlers and there's always the usual small camp pests. Yet I hate to have a first shot up load thats only gonna annoy things bigger'n 10 lbs.. Have more bears and coyotes actually...

    Ruger Alaskan loads

I won't pretend to know why, but central Pa on into central and upstate NY comes up with some real big buster black bears ! Every year some 500+ lb'ers turn up. Add to this that in a defensive bear shootin' its gonna be most likely a head-on shot. So gear things for penetration. NO HP's need...

    Winchester 9MM 124Gn NATO....

No velo figures here. Have gone thru 2-3 boxes here. Believe it to be Mil-Spec Nato type loading. No problem in P-9 or G19. Similar to a +P, though some may want to nit-pick that statement. If you keep an extra reload mag handy for when everyone is behind cover, or into vehicles, good choice...

    Powder for 44mag in Rifle

The slowest pistol powder I've used was IMR4227. A bit slower than 110/296, just a bit. This would give you loads good for both long and short gun. I have no experience with faster rifle powders. steve b

God Help Me,Boys! Cast 44 Magnum

I'm with captainkirk, if you have any issues after shooting, bullet diameter would be on my suspect list. When I want to use jacketed bullets, I use Hornady for their .430 dia.. I try and find .430 or .431 in casts. This for Ruger S.A.'s. steve b

    I'm a Traitor

Yesterday packed the SSSS(shiny stainless steel Sheriff), thru a 89 degree day, of handmowing the back hillside down. There is a place for S.S.. Bad weather, multi day carry between cleaning,etc.. steve b

Pays less and less to reload

In some niche's, yeah the factories are tough to beat. Say, buying case lots of cheapo 9mm to go to a 500-1000 rd weekend course/class. Here, maybe better to buy. Money aside, its about flexibility. NOBODY factory loads .44spec full wadcutters. Its the specialty loads, the loads tweeked to...

    18 grains of 2400 under a 240grain 44mag - safe to download?

On another web forum, I started a thread as to how sensitive are your hands ? If I load bullet X up to 1000fps, or 1100, say, using Unique or anything faster. Then loaded down to the same velocity with same bullet, could you tell the difference, recoil-wise ? I know that I cannot. My hands are...
