    LCR .357 Mag Chronograph

http://www.defensivecarry.com/forum/defensive-carry-guns/133888-chronos-lcr-357-a.html http://www.gunsandammo.com/reviews/ruger-lcr-357-review/ http://mygunculture.com/review-hornady-125gr-ftx-critical-defense-357-magnum/ Looks like 1150-1225 with 125 gr. Critical defense loads (and others)...

.357 Magnum vs .45 Colt Vaquero

I in no way said that a 45 Colt will not be effective in a SD role or hunting role...not that the Vaquero is probably the best choice for either. I didn't respond to anyone saying that the 45 would work because I'm sure it would. The idea that the 45 Colt would work is clearly not the quote I...

.357 Magnum vs .45 Colt Vaquero

I don't know as if you could load them as hard as you want if you are limited to standard pressures which, from the above, you would be with the smaller frame vaquero. Can the standard loaded 45's be handloaded beyond the muzzle energy of the handloaded 357's? Not according to my manual...

    Best rounds for a SP101

My SP shoots about 2" low with 125 gr CD's. It shot about two inches to the left with 158 gr Gold Dots. Of course, when I'm shooting the target in realistic practice, I don't even marginally notice. I'll let you fill in the obvious point commentary for yourself.

    Best rounds for a SP101

OP didn't say what the gun was for but I assume a 3" SP is for human self defense. The .357 mag was designed in the 1930's for hunting. It was originally designed with 158 gr cast bullets for hunting. For self defense, 125 gr JHP has been the go to for many more decades than I and most people...

    Best rounds for a SP101

I don't shoot 38's. I use 125 gr critical defenses. Recoil is manageable especially out of the SP. Apparently Hornady chose a powder that spreads out the impulse of the recoil so the apparent recoil is less. In the below youtube, some guy tests them out of a 3" GP and gets 484 ft/lbs of...

    GP100 trigger

There is no "risk" that I have observed happen. However, I believe it is possible to for the shims to fall out of place when you are putting the pin in. In fact, you can't tell the difference between when the shims are correctly aligned and when the shims are completely away from the hole. If...

    GP100 trigger

Well, I say nothing about Lance Shivly or his shims. As far as hammer shims in general they are worth a try but you would have to weigh the (extremely marginal) benefit against the inconvenience and risk of using them for yourself. By the way, my SP still does not rival the LCR trigger even...

Speed Six vs SP 101 in 357 Mag

Like I say above, the overwhelmingly popular complaint against the SP is that it is too heavy and too bulky. Thus, for a vast majority of people, the answer is not a bigger heavier revolver than the SP. Unlike a service size revolver for most people, the SP can be belt carried under lighter...

    GP100 trigger

I followed this guide for my SP and GP (but haven't changed the springs yet for my GP). It seems to have made a difference and my SP is probably similar to an LCR now which is good for a small revolver, though probably not enough of a difference to have a big effect on accuracy. I replaced the...

    Safety Concers

I've drawn and fired dog spray at some vicious dogs. Good thing I didn't have my 22 mag single six or I really would have pulverized them.

    Safety Concers

Pretty well expected you to get me on the human attack>animal attack argument. I was setting the bar pretty low and, like I said, was happy to be proven wrong. I definitely grant that major national parks and popular tourist hiking trails must be a small magnet for crime. Most people at these...

    Safety Concers

Very well, next time I will start an entirely new thread to ask a question. Which outfitting store was it in Asheville? It wasn't in Weaverville was it? If necessary, I will start a new thread to ask this question. I wouldn't want to be the only person on here to go off topic. edit: BTW, I...

    Safety Concers

I've seen in the news where a handgun discharges when being carried. Mostly pistols and mostly due to negligence. But it happens enough that someone not familiar to revolvers posting the question is far from absurd. In fact, before the use of transfer bars a revolver discharging when dropped...

    Safety Concers

Does anyone have any examples of anyone getting shot, mugged, assaulted, or otherwise attacked in the hills or any other secluded or wooded area? To be honest, I used to take the woods gun as a serious defense gun. But after considering the fact that I grew up in a rural area and the most I...
