Holster for Alaskan and Kodiak 44

Ditto. Their Sourdough Pancake holster can be worn strong side, crossdraw or as a chest rig when purchased with their Chesty Puller straps. I use that holster for my Alaskan.

Nice. Those are the ones that you never get rid of.

    Bicentennial Security Six

Thanks. Auction sites are dangerous places. Was looking for 19th Century Top Break revolvers and ended up buying this revolver, a S&W 66-5 and a H&R Sportsman 999. At least the H&R was a top break.

    Bicentennial Security Six

Picked this up at auction and looks to be an interesting piece of history. I've always liked the Security Six line, particularly in the short barrel version. It has been fired, but not much. Comes with original box and paperwork.

WTS Ruger SRH in 454 Casull w/4" barrel - SPF

Sold Pending Funds Picked up a Ruger Alaskan so this one is now up for sale. Asking $650 shipped/OBO. Sorry no trades. Started life as a 7 1/2" SRH in 454 Casull. I had a professional gunsmith cut the barrel down to 4", reset the front sight, ease the edges of the trigger and install the Hogue...

Anyone deer hunt with Ruger .45 Colt revolvers?

Mine is a 454 Casull SRH with a cut down 4" barrel. I typically shoot 45 Colt 325gr WFNGC bullets for mulies and elk. Accuracy is sufficient out to 100 yards, but most shots are within 40.

    Ruger Alaskan Sight Options

Good tip. Actually have something similar on my SRH. Wasn't real thrilled with it when I first saw the revolver, but definitely is functional.

    Ruger Alaskan Sight Options

While my Ruger Alaskan is an absolute joy to shoot, my aging eyes and the black front sight blade don't get along. Looking to replace at least the front sight and possibly the rear. Like to hear what others have done and their impression on their choice (good, bad or ugly). I know XS Sights...

Ruger response on Alaskan 454 availability....

Had a similar response from Ruger when I asked about availability of the Alaskan in 454 Casull. Short version of what they said was that "they do not produce all the handguns year round". No indication if they were doing so now or when they planned on doing one. Expect the LC9 and SR1911 are...

Where have all the Alaskan's gone?

I would agree that the Alaskan is not a hunting handgun. Definitely could use it for that but ranges would need to be short compared to a longer barrel. As a defensive handgun, it definitely has a place for the same reasons other snubbies have. Agree this is not something to shoot full...

    Recommend a case?

No what you mean by too many choices. Here is one I'm looking at: http://www.northstarcases.com/detail-T6000+X-treme+Case.aspx I like Pelican's but hard to justify the additional cost for general use.

    Recommend a case?

Any special purpose it needs to meet besides protecting the revolver? Use to transport SRH on a airplane?

Where have all the Alaskan's gone?

LNIB 454 Casull listed but unfortunately from the time they posted it online and open their doors, someone bought it before I could. http://www.gunsinternational.com/RUGER-SUPER-REDHAWK-ALASKAN.cfm?gun_id=100173169 While very scarce, they are out there and not everyone is asking crazy prices...
