My wife does not at breakfast, in the morning at least. So, we never go out for breakfast. Well, this morning I had so fasting bloodwork done. After the bloodwork, hungry as can be. Stopped by the local IHOP (I would have gone to the local mom and pop, but it was on the wrong side of the road and traffic in the morning is rough). Orders two eggs, grits, toast and coffee. $ 14.00, plus there was a tip. There goes eating out for breakfast.
Wie is eating Keto, and we really dont have any carbs in the house. So, the grits and toast was a long awaited experience.

That’s steep for my area. The big breakfast where I go, (3 eggs, 6 bacon/sausage, potatoes, and pancakes) is $12.99. My wife and I usually get out of there for $15. A pair of single egg, potatoes, meat, toast, meals.

At my favorite place for breakfast, $14 gets me 3 eggs, 2 sausage patties, hash browns, and toast and it's worth it. Breakfast is my favorite meal.

We go to a local diner here been going for 20 plus years prices have definitely gone up . The wife and I always split the big breakfast 3 eggs 4 pieces of bacon hash browns toast that’s about 20 bucks now and we always get a single stack pancake that’s 3 bucks not bad for California I guess

Egg prices are insane at the moment! Sure makes me glad that I have chickens...😉

Our go-to local family restaurant, here in Ventura County, charges $16 for 2 eggs + 2 sausage pattys (or 3 slices of bacon) + toast (or biscut and gravy) + home fries (or fruit cup). Burp
With taxes and tip.....there goes $20/$22 for one person. Does not include any beverage other than water.....coffee or tea is $4 for endless refills

Because we (bunch of old f****ts) come every Friday and easily run up a ~$100 bill they set our table with 'all we can eat' chips and salsa before we order.
For what it is worth, we old timers hold the table for almost 2 hours.

The other day wife, who seldomly eats breakfast, wanted and omelet. Went to the coney. She got her omelet which came with hashbrowns and toast, I got a party melt and fries. Split a coke. Got out for less than $20.

Restaurants are paying upward of $6 a dozen for eggs in a 30 dozen case. My local diner has great breakfast and I go there at least 5 times a week. An 8oz ribeye steak with eggs, potatoes, toast and coffee is $17.50. I leave at least a $5 tip but I also drink several cups of coffee.
If my wife and I go there and we have oatmeal with fruit and walnuts in it along with an English muffin with peanut butter and coffee The bill is about $16 and I leave more than $5
We support local businesses and try to do as much as possible with them

At Aldi, eggs were over $4.50 a dozen this week. It was only a couple years ago, they ere 99 cents a dozen. Word is that bird flu is decimating the population of layers.

Cracker Barrel is my favorite place for breakfast. Used to have a mom and pop but it closed down. Usually go with my granddaughter her two kids and husband and it cost about $50 -60 but we can’t get out of there without the kids at least wanting a couple of toys or do-dads. They definitely have the place set up right where you have to walk the kids through the row of goodies before you can get to the table. I usually order the senior breakfast and think they’re pretty good.

I seldom sit down at a restaurant for breakfast. If I am on the road I grab a breakfast burrito from one of the many excellent places in Taos. $14 plus tip seems reasonable to me given the price increases of the goods and labor. You probably could have had the same meal at a independent place without the franchise fee embedded.

Bird flu is a menace. My wife's family runs an egg business with several farms in different counties and I believe about 3 million hens. They have been unaffected so far but they take extreme measures to stay that way.

Their hiring practices are strict but they keep their flocks safe because of it. You can't hunt birds or own any kind of bird if you work for them. You shower before your shift, wear a sterile fresh uniform daily and shower after your shift. They take safety and sanitation very seriously.

We have an egg farm about three miles from us. $7.50 a dozen for fresh hormone-free eggs. They sell out quickly every day.
And interesting, we have a bunch of little private egg ranches near me. Over and above that, we see free-range chickens often in urbania, in the burbs, and in the country.
Do country chickens not get the flu?

My home cooked breakfast today, 2-eggs, 4-slices of toast, and a couple pieces of bacon. Cost roughly 2-bucks, and I'm appalled. But what a bargain compared to I-Hops, Denny's, etc.

But add my labor and the restaurant doesn't sound so bad.😀

.
How much do you dd for labor. Thats probably 8 minutes or so. You put Gordon Ramsey to shame.

Well, when you kill a bunch of egg layers simple law of supply and demand comes into play. Here's what I don't get. Everyone is pushing to have drug free critters supplying our food. But that means from time to time we are going to have things like bird flu hit our food supply. Then when it does, folks complain that food costs more. You can have it one way of the other, deal with it.

My market in town was out of eggs last Saturday. Hoping for resupply. Local chickens are not laying yet.

I do not keep chickens because it takes better predator protection than I can provide. Feral dogs, not coyotes, are the main problem. Then we have a lot Great Horn Owls and Eagles. Since they are protected species there is nothing I can do about them except keep the chickens under a roof.
