Yuma High School Criminals

The Yuma mascot is in reference to the old Yuma Territorial Prison. An unpleasant place for sure.

Pretty cool story.
The Yuma Prison has quite a history back in the day, opened in 1876.

Back in the mid 50's, my mother and her bf drove from TJ to Yuma, just to take a case of booze back into CA. At that time, CA only allowed one bottle. AZ entry was unlimited. Don't remember anything about Yuma though. I must have blinked.

To the OP’s point. Lots of schools have Pirates, and Buccaneers. Nobody minds.

Known for rape pilage and plunder definitely criminals. Can you imagine a team with the name the Rapists?
