Nope, and neither is the motorcycle I ride. Unfortunately it can be hard to find a lot of things made in the U.S.A. anymore, that one can afford.

I understand your point. I'm just frustrated with Ruger right now. It's sad that for the most part, American quality doesn't compare to imported. IMO the XDM blows away the SR9 in quality. Just like Toyota blows away Ford in quality.

for full-size semi-autos, I don't go plastic and I don't go striker-fired... but if you're intent on considering these two choices... when looking into the XD...beware, early editions had rust problems. A new finish material was later used to improve corrosion resistence, but many of the early models in agency inventories were problematic.

Also, as with any Ruger product, the aftermarket goodies are much more interesting and easily attained.

Easy... The XD all day long.

I'm a Ruger fan. I have a LCP and a P95. Not to mention a Glock 37, Steyr 40, Taurus handguns, Beretta's, Witness 45, and a couple of other 9mm's. My XD is the best shooting handgun I own. If I had to give them all up but one... I'd keep my XD.

I've held the SR9, but I have not shot one. It just doesn't make me want one to hold it. It does appear to be a fine weapon; but, it just isn't very sexy.

If I were in the market for a 9mm and wanted to buy one today. I'd order the Sig Sauer SP2022 from CDNN for $469.

full frame size...rather than barrel. there's full-frames out there with barrels sometimes under 4 inches.

As well, I should've been more clear about my bias against striker fired full-size... it's purely personal, but to me the full-size is purely tactical and all of the shooting/training I do with them is tactical. Thus, my tactical muscle-memory is tied to hammer-fired semi's. Had I started out training with striker fired, I would probably feel the opposite...but at this point, I'm 20yrs into that routine and too lazy to consider a shift

I too am trying to decide between the XD40 and SR9 pistols.

I love Rugers, I have 3 rifles, MK 22/45, and Redhawk but, I like the XD pistols too. The XD doesnt feel as good as the SR9 in the hand but, it is close. Not too mention the .40 cal is a better round to me than the 9mm.
Springfield also has a great Military/ LE deal so I can get the XD40, 3 mags (hi cap), belt holster, speed- loader, and mag holder for $30 more than the SR9 w/ 2 mags.

Better do a little more research. This story is from 2007 but since then Ford has only widened the gap.

Back to the topic..I've got an SR9 and a Glock 23 but have recently been concidering a Walther PPS. Does anybody have any experience with these.

Not much choice between an XD of any flavor and the SR9 .... a proven top notch brand and a product with no skeletons in it's closet, or a product that's been riddled with defects, a recall, still to this day (after 2+ years) unresolved peening problems, as well as an unkown upgrade to the entire trigger group that's not backwards compatible. That's a choice ??

Not exactly sure which gun you're referring to AW, but it doesn't matter, because, personally I think ALL the plastic combat pistols have the appeal you describe above ... and I MEAN ALL, Glocks, M&P's, XD's, Sigs, SR9;s, etc, etc. In my opinion, ALL of the plastic pistols are ugly.

It's a classic design. :wink: I would have one if I had the money to blow. But high cap CC handguns are my priority.

Conrad I understand your liking hi-cap Autos. I like them myself. However there are different tools for different purposes. I don't have anything to say about 1911's due to my lack of experience with them.
Wheel guns allow for a wider variance of loadings due to the fact that they do not depend on the recoil of the ammunition to cycle. you can load a .357 magnum with everything from .38 special, to snake shot to full house .357 magnum loads. You can use bullets that range from 115 grain hollowpoints for manstoppers to 200 grain hard cast bullets to stop wild animals. I tend to think auto's have an edge in the city-revolvers have an edge in the woods.
I guess I just like them all. The problem is there is so little time & money & so many different guns.

Are you dumping the SR9 to 'move up' to the XD, or are you buying the XD in addition to the SR9 ?
