First it's the CGI movie Dunkirk. Today I received my American Rifleman and apparently there big article is on the Marines during that war.

Sadly I recently came into possession of a Colt 1911. It is a commemorative that at least externally looks like a 1911 (not sure what changes may have been made to the internals yet). It is a Belleau Woods commemorative.

I say sadly as I inherited from my older cousin. A career Marine and a guy I figured couldn't die. Killed by some rogue cells. Heck of a way for a man like him to go.

Those Colt Commemoratives (Battle of Chateau-Thierry, Battle of Belleau Woods, 2nd Battle of the Marne, Battle of Meuse Argonne, etc) are pre 70's-series guns that Colt went to great trouble making just like a WWI 1911, with no scallops around the frame at the trigger, long trigger, small ejection port and flat main spring housings.

Are the internals different than those of the WWI-gen 1911's ?

IDK, but I doubt that there's much difference, if any.

Sorry for your news- the 1911 you speak of was part of a series released by Colt (as pete44 alluded to) in 1967-68 to commemorate the 50th anniv of WW1.

My father was a veteran of WWI. He was discharged in 1918 after serving in Europe. Sadly, I lost him and my mother in 1939 after we left Oklahoma in 1936 when President Roosevelt took our farm, so I never had much opportunity to learn about his experiences.
