Would you trade a Ruger SR 1911 for a Ruger GP 100 .357 Mag?

Would anybody here trade a Ruger SR 1911 .45 Auto.for a Ruger GP 100 .357 Magnum 4" ?

Depends on how much I like the 1911, and how much I wanted a GP100. I would be reluctant to trade my Range Officer for a .357 revolver, and my daughter would likely disown me.

She took a lot of time warming up to the Model 10. She quickly fell in love with the 1911. I saw her shooting the 1911 one handed yesterday. Pretty accurately too.

Not likely. The .357 in a 125Gr is the only standard production S.D. round
that does better than the .45ACP. The major problem with it is the fury it
generates in spitting out the hunk of lead.

The GP100 however, is generally better made than the 1911.

No, I would not trade my 1911 for a GP100. The GeePee's are the P-85 equivalents of the revolver world.

On the other hand, if I liked the GP100 more than a 1911, then the trade is not imbalanced.

If I had a surplus of 1911s and a shortage of GP100s I would consider it an even trade. I have owned several GP100s and will not get rid of my current one. Recently traded my SR1911 for a Colt Defender 1911 but I have other full size 1911s. The GP100 is a good revolver.

Have both. I think it would boil down to how much do you want the GP100 and how much do you like the SR1911.

Plus I already have a VERY well made S&W model 66 with 4 inch barrel.

My sp101 is a small 357-its function in my world is concealment. Its perfect and the caliber
My gp is carry openly, has a 4" barrel, its perfect for my use and so on.
The 1911 is a different hand gun,different use, to me I need this also, its perfect for me, and so on.

Todays value is debatable but I'll say this.
I own a lot of handguns, Ruger and others. IMHO the GP100 is one of the finest revolvers ever designed and the 4" model is so well balanced as to be near perfect. Add a bit of tuning, maybe along the lines of Iowegan's IBOK action work, you'll have a gun you'll never want to put down.
So Yea, if you can't afford to keep both, I'd grab a nice GP now, and worry about getting back into a 1911 later.

Well, it's not that easy for me: a 4" GP is still on my wish list, while the 1911 bug has never really bitten me. But even if it had, since Ruger doesn't sell the SR 1911 in CA, I guess I couldn't trade one for the GP if I wanted. Given other circumstances, I'd make that trade in a heartbeat.

H@!! no not for what used GP100s sell for around here. Seen them as low as $350 in the local pawn/gun shop. Used SRs still bring $500 plus.

I did trade my SR1911 CMD to a GP100 Match Champion. The only fault I had with the SR1911 is the lack of front strap serrations. It was a great and reliable sidearm but I have higher end 1911s that I probably enjoy shooting more and I have wanted a GP100 MC ever since they can out. Both are great guns IMO but I wouldn't trade unless you THINK you have a different need or you are ready to try something different.

Life is choices and experiences. Don't worry about being the deal if that is what you want. They are comparable in value.

Will buy a gp100 any day for 350 if it is in decent shape would need pics. Own 2 6inch half lugs one with a scope it is great. Also love the sr 1911.

In a heartbeat ! Have both, my gp100 is one sweet gun, while my SR1911 (target model) has been nothing but problems - before I finished my first magazine the safety (right side ambi) fell off. I have an AMT hardballer that is more dependable than my SR1911.

Sort of what you want. Have both although my GP100 is an early 6 inch. Under the best of conditions it is a shooting buddy and you can both go to a range and shoot both guns before you decide on a trade and $$ (if any).
