For a friend's birthday, his wife arranged for a group of us to go to an axe-throwing at a place called Bury the Hatchet, just outside of Atlanta. It was actually a lot of fun! During the two-hour session, the instructor showed us how to throw one and two-handed, how to adjust for proper rotation, etc. We then had several contests, culminating in a single-elimination tournament which I am proud to say, "I won!" Distance was 12 - 15 feet and the targets were set up in lanes, similar to an indoor pistol range, with chain-link fence separating. They did emphasize safety, too.....

I purchased this competition throwing hawk and knife from Dixie Gun Works. You'd be surprised at how easy it is to routinely "stick" the target after a few throws. The hawk has a large set screw on the back to keep the head tight on the handle. It even came with a spare handle.
They are lots of fun.

When I was in buckskinning, I got pretty good, too. The home I owned back then backed up to an old farmhouse that had been broken into apartments. It was owned by a college professor, who rented to some strange people. When someone new was moving in, I made it a point to be in my back yard, practicing with my hawk and/or SKS bayonets (which also throw well). Let THEM worry about THEIR neighbor.
