The story by Jeepnik about the pilot brought back a memory of a 'happenstance' I was involved in. Way back in early 1972 I was stationed at Fort Rucker, Alabama. In the middle of the night a tornado struck the trailer court my roommate and I lived in. Power was out, propane was leaking everywhere, damage was immense. It was SERIOUSLY dark. My roommate (another Frank) and I walked out to the main highway to stop anyone that could possibly help. Along with use was a Captain (aviator type). WE didn't know him and he didn't know us. We finally stopped a police cruiser and he sent help the the area. Years later I was in the break room at Weide AAF on APG-Edgewood area and a major came in for coffee. Conversation somehow got to tornadoes. He said that he an two unknown service members were in one and the three of them stopped a policeman. I asked where he was when this happened . He was a Captain then. I told him to wait. I went and got the other Frank and introduced ourselves to him. He was the other guy that night. Happenstance occurs.

I worked with a fellow, and whenever we would travel I'd usually say good I know someone there. He said I must know people every where. A good friend of my oldest sister and I had a saying. "There are only a few hundred "real" people in the world, and you two know them all. It's quite common for us to run into people we know, sometimes in the most out of the way places.

Probably the strangest was visiting a nephew on a ranch where he worked in the desert. Turned out the ranch was owned by a retired Air Force pilot who now flew for airlines. A rather attractive younger woman was there, the couples daughter. One thing led to another and it turned out I had poured syrup of ipecac down her throat when she was a tike and got into the medicine cabinet. Her mom and dad have passed, but I still get an email from time to time.

I might have posted this before however.
My DD,Brother, Nephew, and I. Went to South Africa on a safari.
On our return trip we were waiting in thr Johannesburg airport.Dad says “look at all these people,I ought to know someone here.”
About that time I hear someone say HEY ALLEN. It was the governor of Wyoming and he came over and talked with my Dad.
Half way around the world

Reminds me of a set up to an old joke.

The man visits the vatican with his friend Murphey who seems to know everyone.

While waiting for the Pope to come out onto his balcony they get separated. Then the Pope comes out onto the balcony with Murphey!

He is amazed then feels a tug on his pants leg, looks down and a small boy says “Hey mister, who is that with Murph?”
