Single-Sixer
Just fired my blue 4 5/8" Single Six for the first time this afternoon. Been sitting in the closet for over a month waiting on me to get time to go to the range. Used to be that the amount of time between buying and first round fired was measured in minutes, now it's in weeks. Ah well, such is parenting.
Anyway, this little pistol is one I could truly shoot all day! I really like the slim black plastic grips, and the balance of the barrel just makes it nestle right in my hands. The 22lr cylinder was about what I expected and all I really wanted - plinker accurate with plinker ammo. With practice, it's certainly a squirrel killer out to 25yds, and quite honestly it shot well enough today to hunt squirrel, but I think a Wolff trigger spring and better ammo would dial it right in.
The 22mag cylinder was a beast! The group was about 2/3 the size I got with the 22lr, but the muzzle blast was more like a 38sp! I like shooting mags, but I just don't know that I'll ever carry the mag cylinder in the field due to the noise. And I've got a scoped Hunter model that is better able to capitalize on the additional oomph the mag offers.
I'm not at all disappointed with anything on this gun, but the 22lr cylinder has some pretty tight chambers. I s'pose that's a good thing, but it may need a couple thousand rounds through it or a little light lapping. I'm not going to worry about it or jack with it unless nothing hangs after 5 years or so.
As plain and simple as this little gun is, it is sure a hoot. I fear my Buckmark will only see the light of day when it's time to pop hogs in the trap. I carried the Six on my hip yesterday while my boys and I were scouting around, and this baby is going have some character marks in the future. Just a perfect little gun for the field.
