Welcome to the Forum!

I have his book.

You are new here & can't use the PM feature yet. You have to have several posts to activate that feature. or become a supporting member.

Also, it's not wise to openly post serial numbers.

Hang around, be active & I'll see if I can help.

Thanks the reply and info. Ive done a bit of research the last month since buying the first finger groove . From the information ive read william workmans book is the only book that has a list of serial numbers showing most of the 10/22s that left the factory either smooth or checkered. Does RENE supply the same information?

Thanks for your reply. Looks like ruger isn't doing lettered verification of serial numbers any longer. I emailed them last week to see when or if they would be again. With no reply on there end ... yet

Good to know. My checkered 10/22 is the one im curious about. The checkered pattern is different than any of the others that ive found pictured on the internet
Welcome aboard.
Love me some 10-22 talk!!
The only way to know if was factory checkered is a factory letter, BUT, that being said, I have one that matches perfectly to factory checkering that does not letter. In talking to Linda in the now defunct factory records department, sometimes a gun would get checkered on request after final inspection, meaning after the day book entries.
If it looks different than factory checkering, it likely is not factory. But as with all things Ruger, never say never!
If you get a chance to get Workman's book, buy it. Very cool information in it.

Cheers,

Anyone seen checkering like this ? Only on the grip. Nothing on the forestock

It's a good book and loaded with data and information. But it doesn't have specific S/N's listed. For the finger groove and many other variations it gives the lowest and highest known S/N with that feature. In another appendix it gives year of manufacture based on S/N range. But that's about as specific as it gets on things.

Yes....but it does list other characteristics such as sights, barrel crown, imprints on the sling loops, changes in hardware that help narrow down the search.

Yes, it has a wealth of information. I was just focused on the S/N issue and that it wouldn't say anything specific about S/N ##### (fill in desired number).
