Winchester 94 extractor question

New to me model 94, made in 64 (or there abouts, but definately a post 1964 model).

I did the basic cleaning of it when I took possesion of it, general inspection of wear parts ect ect.

Upon loading it and cycling the action, I noticed the ejector is difficult to pop over the rimmed case (difficult as in removing brass when it does go over).

So I completely dissasembled the rifle, removed the two roll pins that hold the ejector in place and found a slight bit of rust and very little dirt/grit.

I removed the tiny bit of rust, ran the sides of the ejector on some 1000 grit sand paper to make sure it was good and smooth, did the same to the slot the ejector goes in and reassembled it (with a little oil).

After a comlete reassemble, the issue still remains. The gun cycles fine up until the ejector attempts to pop over the rim and one has to put a bit more force than I've previously seen on this design.

Any ideas on something I might have missed or another fix for this issue?

I would stone the forward face of the hook, down to the edge, so the area that has to slide over the cartridge rim is smoother - then operate the gun the way it was designed to be run (hard & fast).

I hear you on the hard and fast....

I'll tear it down again and see what kind of stoning I can do with. The parts are readily available, so I can also get a spare, stone it and see if it works and holds up to the abuse..

singleshot, I have been gunsmithing model 94's for 45 + years and all 94 "extractors" (not ejectors) are not created equal! Some extractors have a lot more "spring tension" built into them than others. As noted above, try the stoning method on the "tip" of the beak first with a slightly rounded beak. If you still have the problem of shaving brass, then I would go with a "new" extractor. Some of these extractors can be bent "slightly" to relieve tension and others will "snap" like a toothpick when you try to bend them even slightly! You shouldn't have to tear it apart to stone the extractor face - just open the bolt & stuff a small cloth under your working area.
(My India stones are very small)

yes, the extractor is the issue, thanks for the clarification.

I haven't had the chance to head up stairs and get the stone on it, but I will tomorrow.

I will let you know how it goes with an update Sunday. Again, thanks for the ideas, hopefully the rounding will cure the issue.
