Where's a good place to get a 45 ACP cylinder for an original (large frame) Vaquero? I'm looking for one for my Birdshead Vaquero.

Will Blackhawk cylinders work in the Vaquero (understanding the critical "length" part of the equation)?

There was a cylinder For Sale here in the classifieds recently.
Apparently it's sold, but you might inquire.

If that one is sold, place a WTB in the classifieds, they show up from time to time.

To answer your question,,, the original Vaqueros share the same frame size as a Blackhawk. So a NM 45 acp cylinder will fit,,,if the OAL is right.

Bowen sells cylinders, as does Al Story (often available via Midwayusa). If you can't find a take-off NMBH cylinder, just buy a piloted cylinder from one of these folks and have it reamed.

Another option - cheaper than Bowen or Story - is to buy a 44mag or 357mag cylinder and have it reamed.

If you have one reamed from pilots, what are the chances for misalignment? Just a matter of getting a new latch and fitting?

Will Ruger not fit a new cylinder?

No, because the gun OP seeks it for, was never built that way. Ruger will only replace original cylinder/s.

FWIW, these cylinders are out there and not all that hard to find.
YES we want to find them for a good deal $100-120, but usually see them sell for $150 +/-25.

Place a WANTED POSTER with a generous REWARD   and watch em come out of them there hills.
