The other post about Skeeter Skelton prompted me to dig into my photo albums,, and dig out a couple of old pics,, from 1981 or 1982,, (I can't remember exactly.) Anyway,, here's one I took while Skeeter was signing an autograph for somebody,, and right after,, I got to mumble something to him about how I enjoyed his writings,, shook his hand & went on my merry way. Enjoy!

Then,, I was able to meet & talk to this fine gentleman. We had a discussion about bear hunting as I recall. I enjoyed meeting him as well.

I took these pics at the SHOT Show in Atlanta in Jan 1982. It was the same show where I briefly met Bill Ruger as well. I didn't get a pic of Bill,,, but I DID get his autograph!

Hey Tyrone ! Great pictures ! Almost didn't recognize Slim, without his nuclear warhead, as he rode it in "Dr. Strangelove" :D .

Now I'm gonna end up watching that today.

Contender, thanks for those pics. I, too met Skeeter Skelton much the same way as you at the NRA convention out here in Phoenix in [I believe] 1979. Shooting Times magazine had a booth that my wife and I happened upon and there he was, greeting folks and shaking hands. Having read and enjoying his column for years, I did a double take and said "my God, that's really Skeeter Skelton"! He was a very quiet, reserved, humble gentleman. I shook his hand and told him how much I enjoyed his columns. Couldn't think of much else to say 'cause I was so thrilled at meeting him! It was a moment in my life that I'll never forget, and I thank you very much for bringing back a very happy memory! They sure don't make 'em like him any more. Much obliged, Buckshot Bill :D

Bill,
I think I was in the same frame of mind you just described. It was my first SHOT Show,, and I was "star-struck." I met a few other folks,, but Bill Ruger & Skeeter were the 2 that stood out. My brief meeting with Bill Ruger was so sudden,, I didn't get a picture. I wish I had been able to get one with the 2 of us together.
