Just curious, when bedding Mark 2 m77 do any of you add pillars? I have read several posts on bedding but nobody mentions using pillars. I have used brake tubing and acra gel with wonderfull results.

I get excellent results with a very simple process. I see no need to clutter it up with the supposed advantage of a pillar system.

Also, the only rifle I've ever owned that had a pillar bedded action shifted like crazy and finally required regular epoxy bedding to keep the action from slipping on the pillars.

Thank you for your input . I believe that if the marriage at the lug area and tang are properly relieved and the marriage of reciever and bedding is secure, with the pillars at the proper heighth, shifting will not occur. Some guys will bed the well in front of the recoil lug to limit slip/shifting but I haven't seen the need. I find that a minimum tolerance in the pillar and action screw fit is imperative as well.
