What is everyone's favorite LR ammo? What is the best? Which one packs the biggest punch?

well, it depends. For the most part, I choos whichever ammo my gun prefers. But for general plinking/playing, Federal bulk stuff.

My favorite is CCI Mini-Mag RN, seems to work in every .22 semi auto I own.

Using the cheaper "bulk"ammos, I've had good luck with Federal Champion, Federal Auto Match and CCI Blazer.

I think we just had this conversation. Take a look at this thead and maybe we can save everyone some time and some typing.

I'm impressed with the Walmart Winchester ammo (333 or 555).

CCI Mini Mag is good stuff, I like the hollow points for hunting.

CCI Mimi Mag RN has better knock down power on steel silhouette's.

been using this for years--use to be 8.99 for 550 box in the 90's but about 19.00 for a box at W_MART :)

Excuse me for pointing you to four pages of answers to your question.

So is everybody suggesting that the more expensive stuff, like Stingers and Velocitors, aren't worth the premium?

Favorite.... CCI Blazer - most consistent of the low-cost stuff

Best.... Depends on the application - the "best" match ammo is not the "best" hunting ammo, and neither is the "best" plinking ammo.

Biggest punch.... what range? Close up (50 yards or less) Aguila Super Maximum or CCI Stingers. Farther out, CCI Velocitor.

And, of course, one always needs a box or two of CCI "Tactical" .22 LR  .... no joke, this stuff really exists.

Remington Golden Bullet hollowpoints. Despite all the internet rhetoric regarding this stuff, 1500rds of it used this past week without a single misfire.

Every one of my guns likes something different. However, there are a few that produce generally acceptable accuracy in most guns in spite of their cheap price. I am only going in to high velocity as I don't think standard velocity is great as a general purpose ammo.

CCI Blazer
American Eagle HP
CCI Mini Mag (HP and Solid)
Winchester Bulk (333 and 555)

The last couple of boxes of Winchester I have purchased had a lot of deformed bullets in the box. Definitely noticeable in the accuracy department. If the next box I buy is the same, they will come off my cheap ammo list. A lot of people like the federal bulk, but in my experience the bulk HP is the least accurate ammo fired in about half of my 22's. Fed Champion is much better, but not quite as good as the ammo above IMO. Peters High Velocity Solids are surprisingly accurate in a few of my guns, not so much in others.

Congratulations, that might be a record.  I think my personal best is 200 consecutive rounds without a FTB, and have only made 100 consecutive rounds a few times.

I LIKE Rem GBs in some of my guns (and some of them will shoot nothing else), but have come to accept that they have a 1 to 2 percent fail rate built in and just look on that as "par for the course." Maybe their quality standards have gone up in recent lots. That would be welcome.

My vote would be for Aguila 60 grain round nose.
They'd be a very strong contender for the title, if you can stand the stench. :P

IMHO No, at least not in my guns.
Federal 550 bulk delivers perfectly acceptable accuracy for anything short of competitive shooting like bullseye and runs with near 100% reliability in my 1984 MKII, 2010 22/45, and 1982 10/22.
Now when I want to play with the 22LR Bullseye crew at the local range I use Wolf Target Match. That's what 90% of the bullseye shooters there use and it DOES make a BIG difference in that environment.

Considering that 99.44% of all 22 shooting is for fun at trying to kill paper targets or those WMD threatening tin cans. Why would anybody want anything but the Wally-World bulk that shoots best through their weapons?

1-2% seems to be the running rate but luck this past few outings has been very good. Dad's brand new 10/22 has digested probably 1000rds of GB's without a single malfunction of any kind. This using Ruger's new BX-25 exclusively. I don't think he's even used the factory 10rd magazine. Mine started to have FTF's at the end of our last outing but it hasn't been cleaned in 3yrs. ;)

I'm bored with pinpoint accuracy. I'm looking for the best LR ammo to stuff my eight BX-25's for the ZOMBIE apocalypse.

Please don't tell me to use a bigger gun. I have many, of all different shapes and sizes, I'm just searching for the ultimate .22 LR ammo.

That 60 grain Aguila offering looks interesting. I wonder if it would be a good choice for the LCR?

Deepest penetrator in .22 LR? My guess would be a cartridge run through Paco's "flat point" tool.

What ammo do I like the best? Cheap stuff run through Paco's Accurizer.

Far right column is my choice.

Flatgate, I'd think that all that mushrooming (and it's impressive!) would decrease penetration, not enhance it. Have you run actual penetration tests on Pacoed vs non-Pacoed ammo? And the Paco stuff penetrates more?

All of my .22s shoot CCI Stingers well; my MKII especially well. Since I only hunt varmints with .22s, that's what I use. Not a good plinking cartridge, especially in short barreled handguns in indoor ranges--too expensive and too much flash. But in my 5 1/2" SS and 6" MKII and the .22 barrel of my TC G2 carbine, it really does well. I also carry it in my New Bearcat when I'm just bummin' around, but seldom shoot it.
