Hi all,

I have a store credit of $450.00 at my LGS. I want to use it before he sells the business in a couple of weeks. I have the choices narrowed down to the following:

NIB blued GP-100 4 inch (I have a stainless one and this could be for CCW).

NIB SP-101 2 inch (I have a 3inch and several S&W J frames but these are tanks)

Used like new in box 1987 Stainless Steel Blackhawk 357 mag 6-1/2 barrel with dies, bullet moulds and leather. (I could care less about the billboard I just think they were made better back then and it does not have the lock like my blued one)

NIB blued Taurus 405 in 40 S&W.

NIB S&W model 10 heavy barrel 4 inch

I voted Blackhawk to go with the other .357's you already have with the bonus of reloading gear that would be useful to the rest of the .357's too. Nice leather is always good!

It looks like you have small revolvers more than adequately covered making the SP101 least logical. The .40 Taurus is an interesting variation on the snub nose theme and likely won’t stay in production long. Taurus is not a big brand for collectors but I’ve seen members write that they wish they could find one of Taurus’ discontinued 5 shot .44 specials or .45 ACPs. On the down side Taurus quality is not always the best.

Good old bread and butter Model 10s are hard to get excited about unless they are bargain priced PD trade ins. They have their place as work guns but a GP 100 can do a lot more. If I were picking off that list I’d buy the GP 100 because I’ve never owned one. However, other than color it would be a duplicate for you and you don’t mention having any single actions, so I voted for the BH .357. Even if you already have .357 dies you can always use another mold to experiment with.

Logic aside, what floats your boat?

Hard to offer advice without info on your complete collection. Bottom line is only you know what other guns you own and where the "holes" are. And, of course, the other unknown is your likes and dislikes. Don't think anybody can offer you advice on what you like and would use more.

I voted for the 4" GP100 because that's what I'd buy for me . . . I already have the .357 Blackhawk!

Edited to add . . . if the GP100 hadn't been an option, I'd have voted for the S&W Model 10.

:)

I voted for the Blackhawk and goodies. But, a close second in my mind was the GP100.
