what cleaning rod and solution?

A few passes with a bronze brush and Hoppe's #9, a couple dry patches to remove the solvent & gunk, and a patch wetted with CLP before it goes back in the safe. Rimfires don't require much cleaning.

I like the good quality, one piece carbon fiber or nylon coated stainless steel rods...they are somewhat spendy, but so is your firearm! I also use jags ILO patch holders.

For me it is Clenzoil and a Bore Snake.

Hoppe's #9 and a bore snake. The o-n-l-y 'thing' I use to clean 22 barrels with is a bore snake.

CLP and a bore snake about 95% of the time. Leaded I use a bronze brush and tight patch, and some CLP. 
Hoppe's #9. I have completely given up on all the new-fangled snake oils.

We're still old fashioned and use the 3 piece aluminum cleaning rods ( even have some old military steel ones).....and we use "Shooters Choice' made here locally in the heart of Amish country.......but then again, we also use most of the stuff on all the 'Haz mat' charts for the tough jobs.. 8)

I've used the Otis system on rifles like the Mini 14 and M1A, where you can't get at the bore any other way that through the muzzle. It works fine, though obviously you can't get the same kind of "scrubbing action" as you can with a standard rod.
I'd rather use an Otis system on a MkI-III, for instance, than a bore snake that never gets cleaned...
But then, I'm also of the school that says .22 LR bores need very little maintenance. I generally dry-patch or brush them once in a while, just to knock out anything loose. The rest of the gun gets cleaned and maintained like any of my others.

Hi,
Three piece aluminum rod. Slotted patch holder runs a patch w/ Hoppe's No. 9 or Ed's Red thru, wetting barrel well. Let sit a couple of minutes. Wet a bronze brush in the same solvent, run it thru a couple of times. Switch to a brass jag and run dry patches thru until they come out "relatively" clean. Finish w/ the slotted holder and a patch w/ a couple of drops of oil of choice (3 in 1 does it most of the time.)
Takes longer to type than do, and in 45 yrs of trying, I've been unable to "wear" a barrel w/ this drill...
There are dozens--if not hundreds?--of ways to clean a barrel. I imagine they all work.

bore snake and CLP is my preference....
22lr really seldom needs the barrel swabbed... I just do it sometimes to keep in practice
