Here it is a bout 3 in the morning. I have a damn Robin signing it's fool head off. It is pitch dark got about three hours til daylight. Been doing this every night for about a week. I live in the city but I am very tempted to shoot the damn thing. Really pissing me off.

My deaf neighbor does the same thing, sits on his deck and signs all night. Looks weird, but I haven't felt like killing him yet...

Ahh,,, breeding season for the critters. :D :D
You must sympathize with the robin. We have all been yearning for companionship when our youthful urges are strong. And we all know that when such things are happening,,, we males tend to do crazy stuff,,, just to win the fair hearts of our love interests. Many a whitetail deer has fallen to the scent of a doe he THOUGHT was near that funny blind thing. Or that Tom turkey has been prey to a wise hunters cooing chirps & cackles. The majestic bull elk that goes screaming to the challenges of what he thinks is a rival trying to steal his harem of cows. Or that foolish sound a bull moose falls for that sounds so lost & forlorn that turns out to be some guy with a cone making lovesick sounds.

That robin is just trying to relieve some stresses & get ahead of any others nearby. But,,, rest assured,,, it's a temporary thing. Oh,,, your choice of calibers will get the job done,,, just barely!

I also was raised in Wisconsin. When I lived there in the 40`s and 50` the Robin was considered the state bird and therefore protected?

Robin is the state bird in Michigan too. But they're "snowbirds". They get out of town for the winter. I'd much rather see the cardinal or chickadee as Resident state bird.

Back on topic, I had a robin wake me up with a hammering racket several mornings when I was spring camping in my 5th wheel trailer. Turns out he was battling with his own image in the back-up hitching mirror built into the nose of the trailer, over the 5th wheel hitch. I discovered the mirror and hitch were covered in scratched up bird crap. Had to cover it with a white garbage bag for the rest of the season.

.

Pull the boolit from just about any rifle load, chamber it & slid the barrel out the window until it's only a few feet from the bird.

After you touch it off, either the bird will suffer a concussion, or get knocked off it's perch - hopefully never to return.

.

I bet if you look on youtube you could find some kink of electronic bird repellent to broadcast out the window.

Put up one of those fake owl decoy things on his perch if possible, sometimes rubber snakes work very well , we have problems with swallows every spring and use the snakes.

This hit is more complicated than I thought!

Who killed Cock Robin?
I, said the Sparrow,
with my bow and arrow,
I killed Cock Robin.

Who saw him die?
I, said the Fly,
with my little eye,
I saw him die.

Who caught his blood?
I, said the Fish,
with my little dish,
I caught his blood.

Who'll make the shroud?
I, said the Beetle,
with my thread and needle,
I'll make the shroud.

Who'll dig his grave?
I, said the Owl,
with my little trowel,
I'll dig his grave.

Who'll be the parson?
I, said the Rook,
with my little book,
I'll be the parson.

Who'll be the clerk?
I, said the Lark,
if it's not in the dark,
I'll be the clerk.

Who'll carry the link?
I, said the Linnet,
I'll fetch it in a minute,
I'll carry the link.

Who'll be chief mourner?
I, said the Dove,
I mourn for my love,
I'll be chief mourner.

Who'll carry the coffin?
I, said the Kite,
if it's not through the night,
I'll carry the coffin.

Who'll bear the pall?
We, said the Wren,
both the cock and the hen,
We'll bear the pall.

Who'll sing a psalm?
I, said the Thrush,
as she sat on a bush,
I'll sing a psalm.

Who'll toll the bell?
I said the Bull,
because I can pull,
I'll toll the bell.

All the birds of the air
fell a-sighing and a-sobbing,
when they heard the bell toll
for poor Cock Robin.

There's a certain time of the summer, the blazing hot part, as I recall, when the mockingbirds are bad to sing all night. When I was a teenager, my room had formerly been a den and had a fireplace in it. This mockingbird would sit on top of the chimney and sing and his song would just echo down that chimney. About the third night of getting this unwanted serenade after working a 12-hour shift at Ford pouring pistons, I grabbed the Browning 12 and one shell and slipped out the back door. Bright, moonlit night, that old mockingbird was sitting on top of the TV antennae singing his heart out when the load of 8s hit him. Went back in quickly before any neighbors could get out to investigate and got a better night's sleep after that.

^ I'll bet that sucked for your TV reception :)

I agree that the OP is suffering from the TN state bird--The Mockingbird. Good thing I live in GA because I find them loud and obnoxious. I never have shot one...yet.

I'm guessing a mocking bird actually. I always hear them up early. Good luck hitting them in the dark :)

Years ago I tried one of those air powered full auto BB guns. It worked, but it took a lot of BB's. I found it to be much more useful on roosting pigeons where I worked.

It did a good job until we missed a few on cleanup. The bird feeder types found them and cried foul.

A WARNING ABOUT CONCUSION SHOT MAKE SURE YOU DONT TILT THE BARREL AND SPILL THE POWDER
MORE IMPORANT TRY MAKING SURE HE HAS NO FRIENDS HANGING AROUND IN THE TREES WE TRIED SOMETHING LIKE THAT ONE SPRING AND WE GOT AN ORCHESTRA BACK WE THOUGHT IT WAS LIKE THE MOVIE THE BIRDS
BUT THE SIGHT WAS GORGEOUS RED AND BLUE CARDINALS, ROBINS , A FEW WE DIDNT KNOW NEVER SAW BUT WE LEFT MORE FOOD
OUT I GOT ANOTHER SMALLER FEEDER FOR THE BABYS THAT WOULD COME THEY MOST OF THEM LOVED BACON GREASE
WITHOUT PRESERVATIVES we made a mistake once NEVER DID IT AGAIN I LOVED SITTING AND WATCHING THEM I MISS IT

"What Caliber for a Robin". I believe .177 would be appropriate whether you use a bb or a pellet.

mike7mm08,
Just so you know, robins are federally protected. Watch who you talk to about
popping one of them.

Fake owls don't work for some birds. In Juneau the TV station put a couple on top of their big satellite antenna to keep sea gulls off. It didn't take long before the two plastic owls had their top half covered in white sea gull droppings.
Some of the tour bus drivers would point them out to passengers and tell them it was a pair of eagles. Anything for a better tip, show the folks an eagle.

You shouldn't think I would do a thing like that. I did drive tour buses in the summer in Juneau after I retired. Had a lot of fun with the tourists...

To get rid of those pesky birds, I would say use a bazooka. Anything less, and your just screwing around and not serious about the situation.

You have to let these birds know you mean business. Or they'll just be back, and they'll bring friends.. And you wouldn't want that.. Would you? Then you'll never get any sleep at all.. So, I say, "blow 'em open a whole new door!"

Lock and load baby! The hood will be shakin' tonight!

I can tolerate Robins, I actually can hear some right now at 2 a.m. They don't bother me, but it drives my son crazy.

However, we occasionally get a crazy woodpecker. They like to make noise, not just look for food. I would have some that liked to do their thing on flue liner cap. It would travel down the flue liner. It was quite loud throughout the house. Loud in the neighborhood. Since they are protected, they get to live. I could get him with a garden hose even though he was 30 feet off the ground. After being sprayed a few times, he decided to find a different place to make noise.
