Ok, I’m fed up! Enough! Several threads in the past about eggs or hot dogs have had people diss ketchup. Like it’s the evil genius of food or something.

Even right now! This is a screenshot of a Pawn Stars episode. Which by the by they have a new season coming out soon!

But read the captions! Why????

I always buy the 2 pack of Heinz.

Use it on burgers, hot dogs, meatloaf, fried taters, onion rings, etc.

I ain't skeered of no corn syrup. I don't drink it from the bottle.

Sucrose vs Fructose Calories
[/H2]

tAll sugars contain the same number of calories – 4 calories per gram (39). So, in the fructose vs sucrose calories comparison, there's no better or worse sugar. Therefore, if you're looking to cut down on sugar consumption due to caloric content, the type of sugar matters less than where it comes from. Sugars that occur naturally in otherwise healthy and nutritious foods such as fruits, vegetables, and dairy are not considered problematic and should not stop you from eating those healthy foods. Sugars that are added to foods to make them sweet (aka "added sugars") are the ones that most health authorities recommend we cut down on.

Remember, moderation is key. The American Heart Association recommends a maximum of 100 calories (or 25 grams or 6 teaspoons) from added sugar per day for women and 150 calories (or 36 grams or 9 teaspoons) for men (20). Added sugar can come from table sugar, honey, agave nectar, sugar-sweetened beverages, sweets, and other ultra-processed foods. It can be in the form of sucrose, fructose, glucose, or any combination of various types of sugar.

Decades ago,, when Miss Penny & I were first together,, I was cooking them dinner. Venison backstrap. Her son,, of about 10, wanted ketchup to put on his venison.
I politely told him that we do not put ketchup on backstrap.
He replied; "I put ketchup on everything!"
Well, the little devilish gremlin in my head said; "Ok, you can put ketchup on it,, but one of these days,, I'm going to make you eat ketchup on something you will not want to put it on!"

He agreed and laughed.

I waited until the timing was right. Then one day,, when we were having ice cream,, I served his with ketchup. Boy was he surprised!!!!! He wanted the ice cream,, but he didn't want ketchup on it. He only ate a few bites & stopped. He did w/o ice cream that day.

That said,,like all things,, ketchup has it's place in our diet. I personally don't use it too often,, but some things it does assist in the enjoyment of the flavors.

One of my childhood memories, I was 5..... my brother and sister liked to take their ice cream sandwich , pull it apart, put ketchup on the ice cream and eat it.
Only use I have for ketchup is making Spanish rice or mix it with horse radish n garlic to use on shrimp.

On fries and burgers, that's it. Putting ketchup on a hotdog is as bad as putting pineapple on a pizza.

Well, my wife would argue with you on the pineapple on pizza, she loves it. When we go out for pizza we'll order half with pineapple and ham, the other half gets sausage, pepperoni, ground beef, onions, green pepper, and extra cheese.

Ketchup has it's place, I like the ketchup/brown sugar glaze on meatloaf, I like it on french fries and other stuff at times and use it in recipes for certain blander foods to give the food a bit more zip. Why people are so snobbish about it really makes no sense to me. Eat what you like, no need to be rude or make fun of other peoples tastes, I'm sure you eat things that they may gag over but most won't condemn you for liking it.

I love fish and other seafood but I just don't care for oysters, salmon, or anchovies no matter how they are fixed (and I have tried them fixed a great number of different ways), it's just my taste buds I guess. But I do love calamari and octopus. Does that make me a bad person?

Well, disliking oysters does bring character into the discussion.

:devilish:

Ketchup on burgers, hot dogs, fries, tots, hash browns, scrambled eggs, baloney sandwich and of course meatloaf painted with ketchup.
And if you’re ever behind in whatever you’re doing, just put a tomato in your shoe and you’ll ketchup! 😂😂

Like others here, I do like ketchup on some foods, but not on most things.

For those who do like ketchup - do any of you remember when Heinz tried marketing ketchup in designer colors?

They made blue, purple and green ketchup for certain. Maybe some others as well. The flavor was unchanged, but nobody liked it. Biggest marketing flop I can ever recall.
