I am looking to locate a good 45 cal WFN lead bullet around 250-260 grains .454 with a bhn of 12-15 no GC

I thank you for any input

Beartooth bullets, Montana Bullet Works, Rim Rock Bullets, probably more....

I plan on casting my own as soon as I find a good wfn for my Colt. I have 43 5 gallon buckets of wheel weights and 1,100 pounds of range lead .

Penn Bullets offers a 45cal super wide nosed cast bullet in their "Thunderhead" line. At 270 grains it is a touch over the weight range you specified, but it might be something to consider.

Here's a link.

I had a friend that owned a garage give me the ww when he sold his business and retired. The range lead comes from the range I ran as range master..

Holy crap, that's a lotta scrap.

OK, I misunderstood your opening post.
I thought you were just asking for a good WFN bullet to use.........didn't realize you are asking about molds.

I am still looking for 100 250 gr WFN in454 with a BHN of around 12 to try in my Colt before I start casting. Lead is not a problem here .I shoot at a range that is lead heavy. I fill a gallon can of range lead every time I practice.

Herein lies an issue. Veral Smith of LBT designed the WFN bullet, and is still in business, making the original designs. Many of the commercial casters offer similarly designed bullets, but they are not cut to the original LBT design. To make it worse, you could find a commercial cast bullet you like, and be unable to buy a mould for that exact design. Since you're ready to cast, I'd suggest buying your mould, and starting out right.

I buy original LBT moulds myself. Finding original LBT design bullets with a bhn of 12 could be problematical. You could also ask Veral which casters use original LBT designs, if you want samples. Veral claims that Cast Performance, and Beartooth both use bullets of their own designs, that do not match LBTs original developments.

Very interesting........ 8)

Jack,
I have had hankerings for WFN and have all the LBT's I can buy. Veral is a joy to talk, e-mail, write to.
Very knowledgeable and believe me, when God calls him up to be by his side; we who own his molds will be glad we have originals so our grandchildren can inherit first class molds. With all that saved Pb, you can't go wrong in having Veral make you some molds.

Live in Colorado, so I have no vested interest in his business;).

Dave at Montana Bullet Works great to work with and catalogs a 250 WFN that he says is out of an LBT Mold. Catalogued in his "Heat Treated" alloy BHN 22 but maybe would work with you on some softer ones.
