Last night we had a mtg at a church (not affiliated) and their was a baby rattler in the kitchen. A guy killed it;the area is highly developed so did not catch and release. I got very close to it before I noticed it...first one to see it.

It was Thursday night and an Episcopal church. Our mtg had nothing to do with them...just rent.

I found 20" copperhead in my laundry basket with the towels one morning in Arkansas, he had a "Ruger Appreciation Lesson" with a full mag from a Mark II in the front yard

Glad it was handled well. I wasn't there that night but a group I used to attend had a similar situation many years ago. A guy named Jerry wound up spending a week in the hospital after getting bit in the back of his hand by a small rattler. Glad you saw it.

Thanks Mike,It was about 70-72 degrees F and it was not moving until it was dispatched via spatula and kitchen knife.

Linda found a Garter snake harmless in our basement by the washer.
Scream could be heard for miles :D I got out and sent it on its way. ps

I stopped going barefoot while courting my ex after 3 rattlers in her driveway.
Found a fer-de-lance (a lancehead, at least) in the kitchen in Belize and saw a bushmaster killed at the airport somewhere in Central America. Also found a cat-eyed snake in the dining room.
Neighbor found a gopher snake in her cupboard in the kitchen.

Mom was always finding snakes in her house and she would always take them outside and turn them loose. She called me one morning and asked me how to get a snake out of her vacuum cleaner. I asked her how the snake got in her vacuum and she told me she was running the vacuum in the bathroom and found the snake on top of the toilet tank. When she went to move the snake with the wand with the vacuum running the snake stuck its head in the wand and got sucked into the hose. She said she could see its tail in the end of the hose but it would not move. I told her to take the hose off and set it out in the yard and check it later. In about 30 minutes the snake had left. Mom was not afraid of snakes.

In VN, much to our horror we found Cobras in our bunkers.
We kept killing them, and they kept reappearing. Result, we would lay beside the bunker but would not go inside if we got hit at night.

Had a close encounter with a Blue Krait when I picked up a cardboard box and the snake was coiled under it in the shade. I thought I was done for when a friend with an entrenching tool cut its head off. Another friend that had been with us was a hundred yards away and still accelerating.

Don: it took you a full magazine? There were 10 of them right? :D

Oh just giving you a hard time. I would have needed 2 magazines. A snake with .22 at 20 or 25 yards is pretty good.

My business,,, I get a lot of snake calls where snakes are in homes. In my area, 99% of the time it's a black snake. Even when people think it's a copperhead,, it's usually a juvenile black snake. (The juvies have a pattern that mimics a copperhead.)
I love it when people get excited over snakes in a house.

Once found a snake on the bathroom floor here and just glad he did not come up through the toilet when I was doing my business. Grabbed him by the tail when I saw he was not poisonous and tossed him outside. Go eat some rodents and other vermin little guy.

There was a BIG black snake in my Grandmothers house for years.... it once started to come up from behind the kitchen sink while some of her friends were sitting around... no one saw it sticking its head up but my Grandmother and so she just suggested they all move to the front parlor.

I saw a bona-fide cottonmouth last week right next to neighbor's house. Tried to run it over but only caught it's tail. It reared up to strike and the white mouth and fangs were visible(had my head out the window so was in good view). About the size of my forearm and 24-30" long (may have grown a little considering circumstances but still a BIG snake). I didn't go after it in the knee high grass BTW.

I see shed snake skins under my house all the time. I never tell my wife because I do not feel like moving. I'd rather see snake skins than mouse droppings!

The toilet reference reminded me of a friend and "Norman", his pet python. My friend was working as a janitor at USC and got a call about a snake coming up through a toilet in the girl's dorm. "Norman" ended up growing to 9' plus. One night in the pet store I was managing, we had a a hamster go "rogue" Killed several other hamsters but, in a crowded cage, I couldn't keep track of him as he blended in. I finally singled him out but he took a chunk out of my hand when I grabbed him to isolate him. About an hour later, Malcolm came in looking for a rat to feed "Norman". I made him promise to wait until I got off work!
