When going to a link to You Tube to see something someone has posted, the one on the bear dogs for example, there's always a list of other videos that may catch your interest. Beware the one titled "Sorry, there's only one interpretation of Islam. Muhammed's." The picture shows an attractive possibly Middle Eastern woman who gives a decent lecture on Islam. At he end your computer locks up with a warning to call this number or your hard drive will fry. It's a scam. Best way to get out of it is to delete the history for that day. Sometimes you might have to delete two days worth. Dunno if it happens every time on that particular video but you have been warned.

I clicked on the link to my own post... I saw the video and the recommended vids alongside..
Even though I was not logged onto youtube when I posted, nor when I clicked on my link, the video selections were obviously the types of video's that youtube recognizes as what I watch.. i.e. karelians, hunting, fishing, music videos, and old comedy shows... There was nothing Islamic or political alongside..
I'm guessing that youtube somehow recognizes our devices and acts accordingly.....
What you search for and watch, is what is displayed on your screen, and not on everyone elses.... The content will be more personalized... that's what I'm seeing anyhow...

They are called COOK-IES. That is where your "information" is stored.

I run Firefox and you have the option of handling each address (URL)
individually as far as what to do with their cookies. I have a growing
set with "Accept for session". That means that the browser will delete
the cookies from that address, for you, as it closes down. The site you
are looking at will effectively say "new user" each time you visit, and then
the browser cleans it up for you.

DEFINITELY takes some work, but your browser history for their site
goes away as you exit the browser. AND you do not have left-over
"stuff" from what they want to do in subsequent visits. OH, I almost
forgot, the amount of work for regularly visited sites goes down quickly. :D

The alternative is to clean out your cookies manually, OR accept what
ever they want to put in your cookies.

Where is that setting in Firefox? I need to change several to "accept for session".

There's only one thing worse than Facebook.
That would be YouTube.
Two insane asylums with open doors welcoming anyone in.

As an Amazon Associate we earn from qualifying purchases. Product prices and availability are accurate as of the date/time indicated and are subject to change.
I have not had my own laptop in some time. I recently bought a cheap Dell with win 10 installed...
I'm putting linux in very soon.... I just can't deal with windows.... plus I run avast vp...

Since I'm not a facebooker, that site does not affect me.... and what internet time I do get is spe t mostly on amazon, locating and buying the things I can't get up here....
So I don't mind seing ads for stihl chainsaws or easton arrows etc....
But it is still kinda creepy.. the internet has changed an awful lot in two years...

Just found another option of Accept cookies!
If you enter the address (URL) of the ones you WANT to set cookies,
you can then set the default to not accept cookies. That sets you up
with ZERO cookies being saved . . except . . those you explicitly list.
Love it! Love it! Love it! 8)

Phrased another way "Accept cookies ONLY from (list)".

:D Saves a WHOLE lot of typing and checking. :D

Department of redundancy department:
This is FIREFOX (there may be others, but I don't know them)

OH BEANS!
Just found out that . . some . . (amazon is one) handle cookies differently
than every one else. You . . may . . need to have all cookies turned on
and set the ones to keep (Accept or Accept for session).
AW (delete your favorite expletive from here)!

Thanks Pat. but none of those settings are under my edit or any of the other tabs. I don't see anything at all about cookie in any of the settings. This is with the newest version 47.0.1

That's strange . . . .

OK . . . Right now I'm looking at the forum page with a title of RugerForum
I then put the cursor up where the text says "Forum" and the display
changes to "File Edit View", etc. I click on Edit and at the bottom of the
drop down menu is "Preferences". Slide down to that and click on
Preferences. On the Left column is "General Search Content Application
Privacy . . . Click on Privacy and you should have the page that gives
you the options with cookies.

I had to take it a step at a time on mine because I do them so often
over the last week that I don't even think about which is where.

See if that takes care of it for you. :D

47.0.1 here too. You can maybe try the long way with...Control panel > Network and Internet connections > Internet options > Privacy.

Thanks again Pat, but I don't see any of that and no "Accept cookies from sites" anywhere.

Try... Tools > options > privacy.

Thanks Poco. I don't see "Accept cookies from sites" on the menu there though. Here's a pic of it: I'll try to post the image. The forum won't allow to paste in a small .gif file from my PC. I don't feel like posting it online to link here, so I'll try to find another way.

Edit: I give up. There is no way to attach a pic and file storage in our User Control Panels.

I disagree about YouTube. There's a lot of good stuff there. Want to find out how to do something? It seems like just about anything a person can do to take apart or put together things is there documented on videos. How about Hickok45? Lots of good info on his channel. How about Jeff Quinn's, 'Gunblast' videos? Fix something on your car, motorcycle or most anything? YouTube.
Check out the series 'Amazingly satisfying videos'. Unusual but really cool watching some interesting people doing unusual things as well as machines that are really neat to watch. When I got my new TV I signed up with Netflix but dropped them because I found more interesting stuff on YouTube.
