I'm shooting a Blackhawk. I've seen 1800fps over the chrono using AA#9 and 85grxtp. CCI 500 primers. I started at 12gr and worked up till I had a case split. I never had sticky extraction, just a split case. I stopped and backed off .5gr. Heck, those little brass cases are hard to find and expensive when you do find them. FA helped out with a couple hundred awhile back and that's what I've been using for load development.
Some others I've tried with good accuracy.
H110...13.5gr....100xtp...1350fps
2400...12gr.......100xtp...1250fps
AA#9..11.5gr....100xtp....1200ish fps
Next are some cast from a custom mold (thanks 2dogs) 313640 118gr. There is a lot of combo's with this mold. I have 3 different HP along with the flat point, plain base & GC. Then there's lubes, CR, BAC, Speed Green & Speen Green C from Bullshop. It's going to be a long drawn out process. But a fun one.
Best accuracy is 10.5gr of 2400 using a deep hollow point w/a plain base & Speen Green C lube. I cast using wheelwheights & linotype, 3 to 1. I size to .313. My bore is a .312 and the cylinder throats are .313, just right, from the factory even.
So far I'm having the best accuracy using 2400. My accuracy standards may be different from others. I shoot off hand, no scope, no red dot, no rest. I want to know if I can hit what I'm aiming at in a field situation. If I can get a 2" group at 25yds, I'm good.
