Waiting for the blizzard?

The weather service is predicting a bomb cyclone snow storm with a blizzard warning for coastal New England for this evening & tomorrow(Monday). Got more wood in for the woodstove, snowblower gassed up and watching TV now. Supposed to be 12-18 inches, possibly 24" with 50-55 mph wind & 1-4 inches/hr.. Hospital called to cancel my wife's biopsy for Monday. How many of you are in the storm's path? It would be interesting to me if members posted conditions during this major storm because blizzards don't happen often, at least here.

Just starting with some flurries now. Supposed to be wet and heavy- so much for snow blowers. Going to be lot for me to shovel- like last time, but without the frozen top. One of the bigger problems will be power outages. I have generators and some solar power to start, but finding a raised area or item to hold the genny out of the snow. is a PITA. Solar would run at night, but for how long without sunlight if panels are buried? Also, the neighbors have a tree with a widowmaker branch that is old and could reach my roof. At least I have some battery backups for little stuff.

Yeah,, wet and heavy snow sticking to wires, trees & branches combined with high winds usually means power outages. While I was typing this the power company called & said they expect outages. We heat with a wood stove in the basement so don't have to worry about a cold house or frozen pipes.Snow's starting to pick up now, was just flurries an hour ago. We got over 12 inches the last storm and the snow's still on the roof and gutters clogged with ice.

that storm just barely touched us Friday morning , we where only suppose to get from a trace to 1" but it moved a little farther north and stayed around longer than they thought it would and we ended up with between 10 and 12"

I used to love it thirty years ago when my wife & I would grab the skis and jump in the truck when we got fresh snow. Now it's not so much fun. Funny how age and Rheumatoid Arthritis changes things.

Oh, I ache and don't want to shovel but snow is a good reason to call off work. Stay in, make a big pot of chili and watch reruns.

It has been snowing here since 4am in central Pa.. Not accumulating though . Too warm , a few degrees colder and it would be a different story.

Should see 12 to 18 inches over the next twelve hours. I’ve had flurries since noon. Plenty of fuel ready and the Ariens is champing at the bit.

Dumped about 2 inches this morning. Then turned to rain and washed that away.....then started snowing again and there is already another 3 or so inches. Only calling for up to 8 inches this time so no calling in to work...although I have the option of working from home. Not that I'm stressed.....FRI 29MAY26 and I'm free from working and commuting in this crap.

its winter. snow is suppose to happen. 2ft coming to ct.
big deal. upstaters ny would laugh at 2 feet.
but we are staying in.
its a good time to eat the odd cans of stuff in the cupboards and loose weight.
4' would concern me. 2' is a good training day.

Depending on where I look we are due 1-3", 6-10", or up to 19" (about 10 minutes I saw that one). I have zero control over what falls. When it's all over I will know, until then I can't worry about it.

I could have built the Great Wall of China with the amount of snow I’ve moved in my lifetime. No matter what you do it all melts eventually. All that hard work down the drain.

At close to 89 I gave up shoving. If someone younger (kids or friends) do it for me, "Thank you!". If not it will eventually melt

Had a work trip planned for Richmond, VA then the Boston area, the the New Haven, CT area. Planned on leaving this morning in a pickup pulling a large trailer. Thank goodness for a timely weather check, I've put it off for a few days, so I'll miss all that fun.

Don't have any kids around my area anymore. Odd how it seemed my youngest was part of the last phase to grow up here in my time, and left for the military a few ago. Although, up the road a couple moved in with some youngsters last year. Nice to hear their voces carrying in the wind while they are playing on warm nights. This area had lots of youngsters at one time. My youngest Son was one of the last to walk door to door in the snow to shovel the driveways of the elderly or those who couldn't. Even driving a 4 wheeler round with a shovel in the gun rack to reach those further in. I retire in a couple months. I'm having a large garage built and new drive way. I'm putting a plow on one of my 4 wheelers. The guy who owns the property next to me has a plow on his pick up and for years has plowed our road, and driveways. Big storms he's at it all day and night....he's nearing 80. I'll do my best to help those while I'm able. For now he will have the road and next year I will have the driveways where needed.

When we were both working, I kept a 160 hp John Deere with a 9 foot dozer blade and tire chains in the barn ready to push snow-it would move 4' snow drifts in one pass. After I retired from the 5 day per week job, when weather looked threatening, she'd just stay in town with her Mother. Now both retired from in town commitments and satisfied to just wait until the county grader comes by. If there's a real need/emergency, there's a 200 hp 4wd JD with a loader to make a hole in snow drifts.

I don't miss being on top of a 6 story hospital at 2am in -4° temperature with a -25° wind chill restarting air handling units and babysitting a pair of temperamental 500 horse boilers. Or running 4 huge 4 story high boilers that could burn 15 gallons of oil per minute each and hoping that I could get enough tankers of oil to keep them going.

Now I can look at the weather and make myself a mug of PG Tips tea while checking out what is on TV.

The weather isn't cooperating so well right now for the sap to run for maple syrup so I'm not working on it steady. Once it starts running I will be running the burner and transfer pumps for a friend's syrup evaporator. It keeps my mind active and I get some of the best syrup made. This retired life is nice!!

That's a hell of a loop!

Was planning on spending abut 5-6 days on the road, with a couple of hours of work at each stop. If I'd gotten there while the weather was still rough, could have added a couple of more days to the trip. And dragging a 5000 lb trailer through a snow storm is not my idea of a good time.

Speaking of driving it's time for my daily journey to work. Only got 7" on the ground but no plow yet. I hate to use my Jeep because it burns about a half tank of gas getting there. But the Malibu won't get up the hill in the snow, much less get up my driveway. I should just office from home and keep the dog company.....but I was cooped up all day yesterday and need to stretch my legs and move around

Main roads are clear. I-695/I-795 are clear, so once on the road you are good to go, however where I live hasn't yet seen a plow. Got about 6-7" total here.

All I hear is a bunch of whining about having to deal with snow.

I also hear almost continual whining about how bad things are in California.

Have you all considered, if you moved to California you could avoid the snow, and if enough moved the political situation would also improve.

But no, just constant whining.
