Good things are worth waiting for.

Redhawks rule in WY and ID where they run for Elk and Mulies and Lopes. Protection against beasts of all kinds.

Waiting for a Redhawk with confusion at my dealer, the rep (I think) etc.

Glad I got out of the other revolver deal. Nothing but disappointment.

I guess a wait of 3-4 months is not so bad. Some of you have waited way longer for other worthy sidearms.

From what everyone else tells me,Ruger is waiting for 500 more paid orders from their distributors before they will make any.............now if you need a plastic mini gun.......

Manufacturing business 101 - make what sells. If item A is selling a LOT and item B is selling a little, you make item A.

Did Ruger take the $ or did the dealer? ;) Ruger's money comes from their distributors, the ones who order directly from Ruger. Your money as a consumer goes to the dealer selling you the gun. A GOOD dealer looks at more than one source. Darn good chance the specific model is available via GunBroker. ;)

Well I just went and looked the distributor I get most of my handguns from doesn't have any redhawks in stock right now either. They are usually stocking a lot of rugers but now none of the redhawks are showing in stock.

So where does the distributor get money to order the gun?No money at distributor no order right? Most guys here go through Zanders but go else where if they have to. Yeah Gunbrokers is got one used for more than a new one and then shipping, and transfer fees.

You think they run the numbers that close that they need all their $ up front? If you wanna look at each and every step then yes, the customer pays the dealer, who pays the distributor who pays the manufacturer. However, usually the dealer is charged when the item ships not necessarily when the item is ordered. In a lot of cases, the dealer will have an account so they get charged at a later date. Have never had to pre-pay for any orders I've ever made.
Nice to grab one from GB and have it be high priced.

I have only ordered one gun, the same in a .45 Colt ,but I knew it was in stock before I ordered it. I was told by Ruger they had to have enough orders before the spit any out,and was told months ago they were starting up "next week". Guy that started this thread has his on order and two here in town have theirs on order and prepaid per Ruger to "show" the need.

Zanders has 3 Super Redhawks in stock in 454 Casull.

Williams has 11 more including 2 Alaskans all in 44 Mg.

If I was the OPer, I would find a different dealer.

Are you talking directly to Distributor, Ruger or who? Not real sure here.
If you are going through the dealer and he is gining you that kind of run a round I'd demand my money back and find another dealer.

If I had been told upfront there had to be xx number of orders and it would take a few months, that would be MUCH easier than the way it went. At the time of the original order there were quite a few of the Redhawks here and there. They dried up quick this fall.
Now, the rep has been very nice and civil, unlike some of the Taurus gang, and I know he wishes it had gone better.
We will see how worth the wait was when it comes. I have been a huge Ruger fan since '77 and this doesn't dissuade me from the great service every Ruger I have has given. Toughness, accuracy, engineering, all attributes of Bill Ruger's work.

I may have jumped dealer, but they have worked out a good deal and I haven't seen any other RH in SS and 5.5". Way out here there are many options and the internet has shown few available new or used. The Alaskan and the SRH do not appeal to me, although they are good. I like the 4" RH, but the 5.5" is what I decided on.

To answer the questions: The dealer was paid and the factory rep put the order in. The repeated problems delivering the item seems to be from Ruger confusion and an issue with the distributor.

If the statement you were told by the dealer is correct then you got a big problem. Dealers usually do not order guns directly from the factory. The only time a dealer places an order directly with the factory or with a factory rep is when they are placing a "special bulk lot order".

In placing the special order, the dealer agrees in purchasing a minimum number of guns. The quantity is what is important not the total price. The dealer must be willing to pay in full upfront and wait 90 to 180 days for shipment.

For this the dealer gets the guns at the same price a distributor would pay when they order from the factory. Depending on the model the dealer can save $50 to $75 per gun.

Every dealer I have known in 30 years does not ask you to pay up front. Dealers know that the 90 to 180 days can turn into 180 - 360. My local dealer will contact trusted regular customers to see what they would be interested in before he places his order.

The last Ruger order my dealer placed only took 120 days. I say only, because the huge S&W order he placed after an S&W demonstration weekend took 9 months.

I only mention this because I think you should get your money back and try with someone else. Try Budsgunshop.com they always have Rugers coming.

Thanks Single Sixer. I will let you know how all this comes down. I have a long, long history with the dealer so I think this is going to work out soon.
I wanted the Redhawk anyway and got cheap when I saw the Taurus (with which I have a good history besides).

I just purchased a 4" SS Redhawk in 44Mag today, off of Gunbroker. Most of the dealers around here wanted $750 + 8.25% tax for a new one but we all know their scarcity. I'm paying $720 total, shipped to my door.

The Redhawk came last week, the day before an out of town trip. It looks good and the thing seems solid and well done. The grips are very nice and the trigger seems good. A little bit of creep, but only a little. I may prefer it like this.
So, it came and the thanks go to the good RUGER rep for the Midwest who made it happen. I will shoot it soon.
The dealer was good. The price was good.
I need to get the rear sight fixed so it is not canted counterclockwise, but that is likely a quick fix to a smith here in MN.
Thanks to all.
