If any of you are thinking of using Verizon for internet service provider,
look VERY closely at what you are offered and how much it will cost.

I've been having problems with CenturyLink for several years (having to
re negotiate, etc each year) so I decided to go with Verizon. Thus far it
has been a very rocky road with them unable to provide the service they
promised, and NOT at the cost advertised.

I'll not bother you with the details until they have been resolved (and maybe
not even then) but suffice it to say you need . . .everything . . . in writing
and then read the fine print VERY closely.
(even more than you normally would)

I hope things can be resolved soon.
Like they say . . . a word to the wise.

:D

We switched to Comcast some years ago due to the crappy slow on and off internet service.
Only 2 choices in our neighborhood either Verizon or Comcast and although their prices creep up too, Comcast service much better.
There should be many more internet access choices for price competition nowdays given the importance of the connection.
Has to do with an age old local law that only one cable TV provider can have the contract in our city.

Very timely topic here!
My wife just got a Comcast bill notice on her phone that the nxt bill was going up to 190 bucks per month and we just have basic cable on 2 TV's plus internet and land line service!
It was 161 on the last bill and when we scaled it back 5 months ago it was 145.

If we get just internet service and phone it is still 119 bucks per month.
It's just a monopoly with thug billing procedures!

Comcast has a habit of keeping rates the same but sneaking in new charges and hope you don't notice.
A while back my wife noticed a new "broadcast tv fee" @ $7. What the heck is that?
She called, they said it had always been there. She asked why our bill went up $7.
They didn't know.
We dropped tv, gave back all the related equipment and the next two bills still reflected
the "broadcast tv fee".
Wife called again. Talked to 4 people. She finally told them that if that charge did not disappear
she would contact the FCC. They dropped the charge. At least until the next billing comes up.
We will be using the local small phone company for internet now. They are locally owned and
serve our town of 2000 and the immediate surrounding area.
Their service is a bit slower but a lot cheaper and they have free popcorn in their office.
They actually smile at you when you come in the door.

Verizon.. The best cell phone service anywhere. But I cannot imagine any worse customer service. Occasionally, we have to make adjustments or changes to our plan. The costs are discussed in depth, we write them down, we have the rep repeat what he's said, but NEVER does what they say in their store or on the phone match what the bill says. The bill is always more. And they always have an excuse. It takes a month or two, we always get it corrected, but we don't get a refund for the disputed charges they charged in the mean time.

Why would we stay with such a company? Out west, in less than five minutes we're out of town and very rural. Cell phone coverage can be spotty. Verizon simply has the best coverage. If we never left a big city, then I suppose any of the cheaper companies would be just fine.

I had to get a cheap Verizon flip phone to get out when in the rural woods area where my range is.
The Consumer Cellular provider for our other phones had no signal when I was just 5 miles off the Interstate!

Hi,

Agreed on the cell phone coverage, and that's the very reason I have one of their prepaid flip phones as mentioned in the "Landline" thread. It's amazing how "far out of town" you can be here just by pulling off the freeway, even as 25,000 of your closest friends drive right by! Mus408 describes it to a "t".

As for other services, they sold out their landline/all other communications part of the business to Frontier in this part of the world a year or so ago. Yes, Virginia, there IS worse customer service than Verizon!
