And it's getting worse. The turn line doesn't bother me what does bother me is that the amount of drag is increasing. Something is wearing to allow the latch to contact the cylinder more and more. What's would be wearing and can it be fixed without a trip to Ruger?

Is the loading gate spring (MR7300) properly installed? The opening of the loading gate pushes the spring down which then contacts the "stud" on the side of the cylinder latch (KXR04500) which opens the latch.
A "bent" spring may also cause trouble.

Seems like there may be a problem with the loading gate detent spring.
Specifically if the spring is not pushing down far enough on the cylinder latch stud when you open the loading gate, the cylinder latch will not clear the cylinder.
Not being able to examine your gun, I'm only guessing of course.
You may need a new loading gate detent spring. And that may even need fitting to your specific gun.

Yes I'm fairly certain the spring is installed and moves like it should. I think it is simply wearing where the spring contacts the loading gate. If i put extra pressure on the loading gate once it is open the latch gets pushed down just that little extra so it does not rub on the cylinder. I can see no extra movement in the gate or latch when I do this but just the extra bit of pressure does move it so there is absolutely no contact between the latch and cylinder.
Should I try a new spring? Would this spring need to be fitted as texaswheelgunner mentioned?

Yes, you can try a new spring.
I don't have any New Models at the present, but as I remember, that as you open the loading gate, the cylinder latch should be pushed down, away from the cylinder to about even with the top of the frame (lower).
(Flatgate, can you confirm this?)
The new spring may be too long at the point where it contacts the loading gate....and that is where the fitting (shortening) may need to occur.
If you install the new spring, and then find that you cannot open the loading gate all the way, it's probably because the new spring is too long at that point.
I am also not sure about which spring might fit your New Vaquero. A quick call to Brownell's should be able to confirm which spring you need.

Ruger's NM Loading gate springs are pretty much "universal". A query about what fits what can easily be answered by looking at the "On Line" Owner's Manual for the gun in question.

+1 On everything above. All of the internal springs are the same on Vaquero and New Vaquero models with the exception being the Hammer spring(main spring).. First, If you have had the gun apart then most likely you have the spring in wrong. Very easy to do. If not then the spring is bent or the nubb on the cyl. latch is worn. Both parts are cheap thru midway and brownells. Good Luck :!: :wink:
markush, A word to the "wise" here. Order at least three springs as there are "slight" differences from spring to spring. I have three regular springs in inventory and they are all slightly different. Sometime they are drop-in but often need "some" fitting. By ordering 3 or 4, you may find one to drop right in and cure your problems!...................Dick :wink:
