Ok so I'm fairly new to Ruger SA pistols. My Blackhawk has an aluminum grip frame and ejector housing, and so does my single six. Do Vaqueros use aluminum too or are they all steel? My Vaqueros are stailness so they are steel, but how about the color case hardened and blued Vaquaros are they steel too?

Welcome to the forum.

all New Vaqueros have steel grip frames and ERHs............. i might be wrong about the ERH, but i don't believe i am

my Vaquero has a steel grip and an aluminum ERH. i do know at some point after mine, the Vaquero came with steel ERHs.

just an fyi, New Vaqueros are the ones currently sold new by ruger. these are built on ruger's medium frame. the Vaquero is not currently cataloged by ruger. this one was built on Ruger's large frame.

All Vaqueros I've had or seen--large and mid frame--are all steel.

Vaqueros were shipped with XR3-RED pattern grip frames whereas the New Vaquero utilizes the Colt SAA sized XR-3.

Note the hammer profiles, as well.

Howdy

About ten years ago I bought my first Vaquero, used. It is a very early one, made in 1993. When I got it home I was comparing it to my old Blackhawk that I bought in 1975. The Vaquero seemed a little bit heavier. So I got out a magnet and sure enough, the grip frame was steel. The ejector rod housing was aluminum. I soon replaced the ejector rod housing with a steel one.

I also eventually replaced the cylinder base pin with a Belt Mountain #5 style pin.
