There is a vaquero in .45 at my local shop that has caught my eye. It would be my first vaquero if I pick it up. Question is, how hot of a load can you run in a vaquero? I'm running a 240 bullet with 22 grains of 296 in my Blackhawk .45. It may be a deal breaker as I don't want to accidentally put the wrong load in a gun and ruin it or worse.

If it's an original large frame Vaquero, any load that would be safe in a large frame Blackhawk should be safe in the Vaquero.

If it's a New Vaquero, then it's built on the medium frame, and I don't believe you should exceed SAAMI standards, i.e. no "Ruger Only" loads.

This seems to be the conventional wisdom.

What he ^^ said....and it'll say "New Vaquero" on the frame if it's the more recent smaller "mid-frame" gun (with the odd exception of the .44 Special NV's, which are also the smaller frame but say just "Vaquero" on them).
