I have used the VA here in Phoenix for about 15 years now. This week I had to schedule my annual visit with the doc. Called every day this week, left message as instructed and did not get any call back. When I called the main hospital at 1600 today I was told to call back on Tuesday and talk to admin. Really disappointed in the level of incompetence shown by these govt. employees.

If you have used this VA office for 15yrs without real problems...I would say to give them the benefit of the doubt and call back next week...or take your business elsewhere.

Strange; I have not had a problem like that here in Tampa area, There "should" be a number you can call and actually talk to a person. I can call the Women's Clinic (which has a separate number) dial the right extension and talk to one of the clerks and make an appointment. I can also go on "MyHealthyVet" and leave a SECURE message for my Healthcare Provider (She is a Nurse Practitioner) and usually have a response in 24 hours or LESS via the same method.

Checking on the Internet, For the Hayden VA Hospital in Phoenix, here are the departments I would try:

#1. Appointments and Scheduling

To schedule an appointment, please visit our appointments page, My HealtheVet, or you may call the VA Help Line at (602) 222-6550 (toll-free in Arizona at 1-888-214-7264) .

If the same delay then go to this one:

#2. Patient Advocates

The Carl T. Hayden VA Medical Center has a team of highly-skilled patient representatives who are eager to assist if you have a compliment, complaint, or issues with which you need assistance.

Please contact one of our representatives at (602) 277-5551 ext. 1-7394, or you may visit them at our medical center on the first floor of Building 1, Room 1147 and 1147a. Their fax number is (602) 222-6489. Department-level patient advocates are also available to assist you with concerns you may have as an inpatient or outpatient.

FInally, I would go to this one as a last resort and Press #5

VA Help Line

Please contact our VA Help Line if you need medical advice, have a question about your medication, or need to schedule a non-urgent appointment. Your location determines which number to use.
Within Phoenix metro area: (602) 222-6550
Toll-free in Arizona: 1-888-214-7264

If you are sick and wish to speak to a nurse, press 5. And then tell them your problem of scheduling an appointment AND/OR getting the promised call back.

You MAY ALSO want to threaten calling your Congressman, the Newspapers AND the LOCAL TV CHannels.
After the LAST round of bad press in the Phoenix area, THAT should stir up the old fertilizer !!

GOOD LUCK

Didn't this get fixed? We were told it was.
My sn saw the VA docs in Tuscaloosa Thursday. Wednesday afternoon they called to say come in early.
Of coursehe had to talk to shrinks and after all the questions he told them he expected the usual questions about firearms. Doc asked what about it and son said, "noneya". Doc said, "Nothingv wrong with you".
