Used Super Blackhawk .44 Mag for $275? Trigger problems?

Found a used Super Blackhawk .44 Mag at my local pro shop on consignment from a private individual for $275. It has Pachmayr grips covering up the knucklebuster trigger guard. Says it has had a "custom trigger job" by a renowned gunsmith, but I noticed that when you cock the pistol and pull the trigger to release the hammer, the trigger stays in the rear position. When you barely touch the hammer to cock it again (or slap the gun), the trigger resets itself and moves back to the forward position. Is this a problem that could be easily fixed (i.e., cleaning the internals?) It seems like a great deal on the gun.

It "sounds" like a damaged or disconnected trigger return spring. Toss those gips in the trash and inspect the trigger spring........... :roll:

PS The proper thing to do is disassemble the gun and inspect each part. The trigger may be hanging up in the grip frame or ????

But is this something that is easily fixed? That sounds like a decent price for a SBH doesn't it? I'll go look at it closer tomorrow. I want to take off the grips just to see if there's any rust hidden under them.

Welcome to the forum.

Most trigger work includes modifying the trigger return spring. Assuming the revolver is a new model , the spring either gets reshaped or one of the two legs gets removed from its grip frame pin. Removing the grips will allow you to tell which. Any of these things are easily fixed. Assuming that the revolver has no other issues, $275 is a steal of a deal.

I'd buy it if he hammer won't push off when cocked. I'd maybe try 250 and point out the trigger problem and assumed repairs needed. Of Course that's just me.Most likely this is an easy fix if you are willing and able to do the work.

If you can push the hammer down from the cocked position. With less then 10 or 12 pounds of pressure. You may have bigger issues. ie. a bubba trigger job.....

There is nothing that could be done to a Ruger BH trigger system that can't be easily repaired for very little money. If you like the gun, that's a good price, don't let the trigger problem put you off.

I agree with hunter3705. Parts are rather inexpensive. Installing them is an education.

If you can push the hammer off from cocked with anything less than a sledgehammer, you have larger issues! But at $275, any fix you need will be cheap enough to justify the purchase, assuming overall good condition.
