Local guy has a blue 5.5 inch new in box.
What’s reasonable that I should offer him for it?

I would start at $750........around here anyways....

A quick look on GB told me they are scarce & desirable, actually something I was semi aware of. You likely know that as well.
With that, I like to let a seller tell me what they want for it. If they're reasonable you can go from there. Thin ice to offer first. Ya take a chance on insulting them, or,,,, offering more than they had in mind & they tear your arm off taking your money. THat's palm smack then, gee! I could have bought it for less.

I know one thing, if you plan to shoot it, & especially if ya reload, you'll enjoy the heck out of it.

$750-800 is a good starting point. But maybe have him offer so there's there's chance he comes in lower.

Going to be posting a 7-1/2" Bisley 44 special "Shootists Mistake" in the next week or so, if you are interested. The one being sold is the revolver used for the photos.

Photos shown were taken by Ruger's photography company in Southport, CT. They were never used for catalog postings due to the "mistake" issue.

Initially it was believed only 94 were produced and sold to Lipey's, but then an additional 30 were produced for each Lipsey's sales person, bringing the total up to 124, thus the two certificates.

Whatever it sells for in an on-line auction, less commission would probably be a good price for both of you. Or less than the seller could have gotten in a straight sale.

Or if they use an auction house, buyers don't bid as high because they consider the buyer's premium they'll have to pay.

I have the very same pairing. And like you I prefer the plow handle version.

Well, apparently I misunderstood about an auction. He’d rather sell it locally. Not something I’m interested in. Appreciate your insight on value and rarity, etc.
